When friends started to offer to sell us raw milk and eggs, I actually looked up the statistics on infections from them. It appears for raw milk you get a few dozen per year, similar to what you get with standard pasteurized milk.
There are great reasons to refuse to eat raw cookie dough–the Maillard reaction is your friend!–but the notion that it’s a huge danger is not among them. The big danger that I can see is (beyond romaine lettuce with javelina scat on it, I guess) raw chicken that was cooled at the Tyson plant in a solution of chicken waste and water.
