Virtue-Stomping

Dick’s Sporting Goods has earned the ire of 2nd Amendment human rights activists, over and over.

In 2013, they publicly announced they were out of the “assault weapon” business after the Newtown shooting (where a deranged boy killed his mother to get her AR15).

They apparently slowly retrenched, because they publicly did it again after the Parkland shooting.

Nothing like conviction.

But now, they want to take it to the next level…

…of virtue-signaling stupidity:

After announcing policies that most gun owners saw as alienating, Dick’s Sporting Goods said it will go one step further and destroy its remaining inventory of firearms dubbed “assault weapons.”

A spokeswoman told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the remaining inventory at the retailer’s Field & Streams stores will be destroyed and then recycled.

“We are in the process of destroying all firearms and accessories that are no longer for sale as a result of our February 28th policy change,” she said. “We are destroying the firearms in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations.”

I’m sure the shareholders will be thrilled.

  1. Why didn’t they donate firearms and parts to small-town police departments who face the scourge of meth gangs without the big-city budgets to upgrade their equipment? Why does Dicks hate cops and want them to die?

  2. Well said, Joe. Dick’s Sporting Goods not only hates peace officers and the innocent citizens they would be protecting if only they had the proper equipment, but apparently they are also under the impression that paying vendors for goods that will never be used has no affect on the supply and demand curves. They also appear to be unclear on the fact that firearms can, indeed, be manufactured in large quantities affordably from commonly available metals like steel.

But they understand virtue signaling, even if they don’t understand that gun owners have consistently shown long memories when companies (e.g. Clinton & Wesson agreement) make moves to infringe on civil rights.

  3. It is my sincerest hope that the IRS doesn’t allow Dick’s to take a tax write off for the voluntary destruction of their inventory….and prosecutes if they try to illegally.
