Dereliction

The FBI dropped the ball in investigating Nik Cruz…

..according to that noted conservative tool, the FBIˆ:

The startling revelation came two days after police say Nikolas Cruz marched into his former high school and gunned down 17 people. In a statement, the FBI said it received a tip last month from “a person close to Nikolas Cruz” reporting concerns about him, specifically saying that he could potentially carry out a school shooting.

While this should have been investigated “as a potential threat to life … these protocols were not followed,” the bureau said in a statement.

“We are still investigating the facts,” Christopher A. Wray, the FBI director, said in the statement. “I am committed to getting to the bottom of what happened in this particular matter, as well as reviewing our processes for responding to information that we receive from the public.”This revelation made the Parkland shooting the third time in as many years that a mass shooter who terrorized Floridians had come to the bureau’s attention beforehand. In 2016, the FBI said it had previously investigated the man who gunned down 49 people at Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Last year, authorities said a man charged with killing five people at the Fort Lauderdale airport had walked into an FBI office weeks earlier and made bizarre statements.

These are the people the gun grabbers say we should be trusting with all the power of life and death.

  1. It’s not that simple. The shooter in Sugarland, TX had a history of beating his wife and his dog, for which he had served jail time while in the Air Force. That’s pretty common. The guy in Las Vegas didn’t have a criminal record.

  2. The Supreme Court of the United States has repeatedly and reliably ruled that police officers and police departments cannot be sued or prosecuted for;
    1. Failing to apprehend a law breaker.
    2. Failing to gather evidence.
    3. Failing to prevent a crime.
    4. Failing to stop a crime in process.
    5. Failing to enforce a law; any law.
    6. Failing to enforce a court order.
The Parkland High School has over 3,000 students; equivalent to a small town. Yet, they essentially have no police department. Our banks and liquor stores have better security than most schools.

  3. Should anyone be found to be at fault, they will not be held accountable. Not even a disciplinary note in their HR file.

With but a few examples (Knate Knuth), Government employment pretty much means never having to say you’re sorry.

Unless public opinion rolls against you (Al Franken…….sorta)

  4. I just read an updated account of the attack and it noted that one of the security monitors at the school saw Cruz getting out of a car (Uber) and radioed to other monitors that he had a black duffel and backpack and was moving purposefully.

Other reports have stated that the school banned him from being on the grounds with a backpack.

Cruz was not unknown to the administration or the school security team, and they were on the alert for him. They had eyes on him and knew who he was as he approached on the day he attacked. All they lacked was any means to do anything but be a witness.

  5. The shooter in Sugarland, TX had a history of beating his wife and his dog, for which he had served jail time while in the Air Force. That’s pretty common.

What’s unfortunately also common is that many states, as well as the USAF, have very spotty policies about reporting domestic and especially mental illness issues to the NICS.

Minnesota is one of them. Florida, as we’ve seen, is another.

  6. All they lacked was any means to do anything but be a witness.

“You had one job – and no means to accomplish it”.

  7. It’s not that simple.

Apparently it was in this case. We are talking about this particular case, capici? No, of course not. You are not interested in a dialogue, just pushing chanting points. This is why you are always the first to comment, to deflect and hijack the discussion. Such pathetic, transparent trolls. How’s that plan coming along?

What do you do to prevent other mass shootings similar to the ones in Las Vegas and Sugarland, TX? Lawfully purchased firearms in the hands of individuals who look a lot like you and me. Good guys with a gun; until they act out.

What say you? Busted? Or are you going to blame these diametrically opposed statements on your multiple personalities? Or do you contend that a person beating his wife and his dog is a Good guys with a gun?

My, my, my… You completely neglect to acknowledge that current laws need fixing and that “sensible gun control laws” are the only, final, solution. What’s your plan, cupcake?

  9. Jeepers, I never get in the mod queue. Guess I must be livin’ right.
I suppose the people in the queue are trying to slyly introduce the topic of erectile disfunction cures. Stop it!

  10. To allow a logical discussion, we would have to know the total number of tips the FBI gets each day about people hoarding guns and making threats. Is it humanly responsible to follow up on all of these? Aren’t politicians blaming the FBI the most transparent of all hypocrites.

Too young to buy a beer, but old enough to buy an assault rifle. This is the problem.

  11. “Too young to buy a beer, but old enough to buy an assault rifle.”

Yeah. All we have to do is raise the age to purchase rifles and those kids will all stay home playing video games, drinking mom’s lemonade instead of loading up magazines, drinking mom’s lemonade.

  12. Shvonder-eTASS, there were multiple tips and past history in this particular case. You do know what “multiple” means, right? As in many, more than one. But you did know that. Yet you chose to use a logical fallacy instead. You deliberately chose to lie? Why? Is that a pathology? You are indeed one sick puppy with multiple personalities. Sad.

  13. By my understanding, the Florida governor is a supporter to the availability of guns made to kill many children very quickly.  So no wonder he is looking to throw some blame away from himself, the more shameless the better.

  14. “By my understanding, the Florida governor is a supporter to the availability of guns made to kill many children very quickly.”
This is a bizarre statement. Is your brain working okay today, emery?

  15. By my understanding, the Florida governor is a supporter to the availability of guns made to kill many children very quickly.

Military (and miltiary style) firearms don’t kill any more quickly than any other. Indeed, they’re less powerful than hunting rifles. They are design to not jam under stressful conditions. That’s it.

Cruz had three uninterrupted minutes. He could have killed 17 with a handgun and a bag of 12 round magazines. Or a shotgun and a sack of #4 buckshot. Hell, he could have killed 5-7 with a muzzle loading musket, and probably more with the attached bayonet, because at school, nobody can lift a finger because it’s a felony for a law-abiding citizen to defend themselves.

  16. Then it must be a good thing Cruz wasn’t clever enough to attach a bump stock to his lawfully purchased “military style” (a distinction without a difference) assault weapon.

  17. 5 will get you 10 that Emery never heard of a “bump stock” until the Las Vegas shooting.
You have no idea what you are talking about, Emery. I hope you do not have a job where you are expected to give reliable advice.

  18. Interesting that the Florida Dept of Children and Families investigated Cruz and determined that no action was necessary. Rick Scott should resign!

  19. Shvonder-eTASS, your comments are a perfect example of a triggered drug-addled brain which had been deprived of oxygen for far too long. The only thing it can do is regurgitate talking points fed to you by your masters. Sad, but thank you for the entertainment and a reminder how sick, deprived, amoral, unintellectual and logically-challenged the left is which you represent with such an aplomb.

  20. To purchase a handgun in Florida you need to be 21 yrs old with a 3 day waiting period for handgun purchases. To purchase an AR-15 you only need to be 18 yrs old and wait a few minutes to clear a background check, and are able to walk out with an AR-15 style rifle, magazines and ammunition.

Seems ironic that Governor Scott is calling for the resignation of the head of the FBI. Perhaps Scott and Florida state legislators should point the finger at themselves and the regulations they support and vote into law.

  21. Federal law requires 18 years of age to purchase LONG guns from Federally Licensed dealers. Only a couple of states have more restrictive age requirements. So Florida is no less restrictive than the vast majority of states.

Gov Scott is upset with the nonfeasance of the FBI and others in not acting on concerns they had received regarding the mental stability of Cruz. His calling for the resignation of Wray may be over the top but I believe it’s his related to his demand for answers for how Cruz slipped through the cracks.

Keep in mind that a 16yr. old can get a drivers license, and a 17yr.old can get a pilots license if they meet the requirements. Probably pretty fortunate that Cruz didn’t crash a car or plane into a crowd of folks given his supposed mental issues, the carnage could have much worse.

Seems to me the real focus should be on mentally unstable people and how we protect them and society from their potential to do harm.

  22. I’d like to report an unstable (genius) individual who is in control of a vast arsenal. You can find him at his club in Mar-a-Lago.

  23. And here we go… Never underestimate Shvonder-eTASS ability to boil everything to “sTrumpet did it” when void of any logical retort and out of talking points. Talking about living rent free in his brain – easy to do since it is pretty vacant.

Hey, PISS FOR BRAINS, why did not your boy 0bumbler pass sweeping anti-gun legislation when he had supermajority? Or amnesty? Like he did 0bumblercare? Why did not your side DOOOOOOO something when they had supermajority? You have no standing in your wrongful indignation and hand wringing. None. Nada. Zero. You do know the concept of a zero, don’t you? Probably not, but look in the mirror.

Got a plan? Go troll yourself under a bridge, that is all you are capable of, demonstrably demonstrating demonstrations of your demonstrable obtuseness.

  24. I’d like to report an unstable (genius) ..

Good, gooood. Let the inner dooshbag flow through you, padwan. It is your destiny!

  25. Seems ironic that Governor Scott is calling for the resignation of the head of the FBI. Perhaps Scott and Florida state legislators should point the finger at themselves and the regulations they support and vote into law.

Of course. Because making laws is exactly the same as fucking the dog when it comes to enforcing them and….you know, doing your job.

You’re on a roll, little cowboy. Do more.

  26. ‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens”
    Onion headline

  27. Emery posted this demonstrably false assertion: “‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens” Onion headline”

There are in fact countries with a higher mass shooting frequency of occurrence than the US; Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Switzerland, Norway, Slovakia, Finland, Belgium, Austria, Czech Republic, and France just to name a few

you guys at the Emery-Collective™ need to do a better job of researching things.

  28. Mac, it has never been about researching things, factual things, logical things, moral things for the commissariat. It had always been about talking points to advance your agenda, no matter how unresearched, false, illogical and amoral it is.

  29. Very sad that the Trump White House missed all of the signals sent out by the FBI about Rob Porter. They need to spend less time selling out our democracy to Russia.

  30. ah the Emery-Collective™ chooses to deflect and pivot rather than acknowledge that their previous mendacious argument has been exposed – good going, maybe someday your masters will let you join the JV of the Sophistry Team!

  31. The military accepts recruits right out of high school. By age 19, thousands of young men and women are routinely expected to competently and safely handle M9 Beretta pistols and fully-automatic M16 rifles. So why aren’t they shooting up schools? What’s different about them?

It’s not the guns. It’s not the age of the people holding the guns. There’s some other key component that makes police officers and Marines different from school shooters. Liberals can’t figure out what it is. No clue at all. Which is why their “solutions” make no more sense than their snarky comments.
