Friends In Low Places

You might ask yourself;  how does someone like Heidi Heitkamp – a liberal Democrat Senator, in a party that is almost extinct outside Fargo, Grand Forks and Minot, and whose state legislative caucus doesn’t have enough elected members to fill all the party’s committee assignments – keep getting elected in a state that Trump carried 68-32?

It’s easy:  Lots lots of Democrats on the coast who are desperate to hold a Senate seat that was in Democrat hands for generations, and which, once lost, will likely never be Democrat again (emphasis added):

Heitkamp, currently gearing up to run for reelection in a state President Trump carried by 36 percent, was heavily reliant on sources outside North Dakota during the last fundraising quarter, during which only $21,318 of the $739,218 raised came from North Dakotans.

Nearly twice as much money—$39,600—came from employees of financial giant Goldman Sachs alone, including a maximum contribution from Harvey Schwartz, the firm’s president.

Also outpacing North Dakotans were New Yorkers, who supplied $191,408 to Heitkamp, and Californians, who supplied $124,452.

Overall, the $717,900 Heitkamp received from donors outside the state accounted for more than 97 percent of its fundraising during the quarter.

Heitkamp earlier this year attacked the idea that “billionaires outside North Dakota who don’t know anything about our state” have an impact on its elections.

Perish the thought.

  1. I noted that she won the ’12 Senate election against Rich Berg (?) by < 1% of the ballots cast, seems that in '18 she'll need all the carpetbagger outside money that the machine can bring her.

  2. Yes, people outside Nordakota realize that in terms of Senate power per campaign dollar, the Dakotas are a gold mine. Anyone unclear on this….probably ought not have elected office, really.

  4. You’re telling us that candidates for office are using “ out of state money” to fund a political campaign?

    Shocker! 💰😂

  5. Maybe Ms. Heitkamp should run for office in New York……. since they like her so much.

She shouldn’t worry about running as an out-of-state carpet bagger either, it’s been done before – successfully.

  6. Not to defend Heitkamp, but most of her out of state funding is coming from oil and gas interests. I would speculate that ND is dependent on the shale industry as a source of tax revenue as well as source of employment.

  7. Not to defend Heitkamp, but most of her out of state funding is coming from oil and gas interests.

Because demoncRats are so friendly to oil and gas interests? Your sock puppet socks are on too tight. Care to give a site to your “most of her out of state funding” assertion? Or did you just puled that fake fact out of one of your sock puppet orifices and just threw it up there thinking it would be hard to check? Well, since I did, I will patiently wait for you to apologize for lying. Again. Always. Every fucking word, including “a” and the”.

  8. A better troll (jpa) would have included that information in their comment. Perhaps it’s time for the FSB to recall you to Moscow for continuing education at the FSB Troll Academy.

    Clearly your skills are lacking.

  9. Emery, I notice that you avoided the question by throwing back an ad hominum. Perhaps now that you got your dig in, you could actually cite a source? Particularly since Scott has provided a refutation to your original statement. To allow others to be persuaded by your argument and data?

  10. Emery, I don’t know which contributors you’re putting in the oil and gas column to come up with your $404K number. Additional to that how you equate Lawyers and Law firms to energy sector interests, particularly since Heitkamp is a lawyer not to mention former ND Attorney General. Doesn’t seem like a reach to me that she would realize donations from left leaning law types. Note: It appears as a lawyer Heitkamp has never practiced in the private sector. All her work and jobs have been in government.

  11. The link I provided should answer your question regarding: Gas and Oil contributions. It stands to reason these law firms may or may not represent Oil and Gas and/or financial interests. As you may know, many of the independent shale operations are heavily leveraged. Investors are more interested in orthodox measures of success including returns on capital and cash generation instead of the promise of this technology.

  12. Oil and Gas > 404K
    Lawyers and Law firms 570K

Let us all see if you can follow the math:

Out of $2.3M. Let’s presume for a moment worst case scenario where Law Firms are all 100% Oil and Gas, then both combine for 404+570=974. The other top 3: 364+320+297=981. Most = >50%. 974<981 = You fabricated facts.

Which interests do the law firms represent?’
Why don’t you tell us? Have a site, since the link which you cribbed from Scott, says absolutely nothing to prove what you are asserting.

Further to point, it can be argued one cannot ascribe individual donations to a specific industry, but only to individual politics. So let’s look at the detailed numbers again for the top 5, minus individuals:

    Oil & Gas: $229M
Rest: $836M, Leadership PACs is 297 and insurance is 255, both singularly larger than O&G. So 229 < 297 or 255 = You fabricated facts.

I think you may have to knit another sock puppet. This time make it large enough to fit over the nose of your troll. It is getting larger with every lie you tell.

eTASS-BFL-SPM, I will call you out every time you spout a lie, or misdirect, or obfuscate, or fabricate and will call you what you are, an anti-Semitic Soci@list Bald Faced Liar and now, a Sock Puppet Master. ad hominem is not an ad hominem when it is a true and accurate description.

And there go the goal posts! Woah! Troll, you squirm more than a nightcrawler on a hook, and hooked you are. Have you no price? No scruples? No integrity? No honesty? Oh wait, of course you don’t!

  14. Have you no price? Oops, that was supposed to be “no pride”. Price eTASS-BFL-SPM has, for he already sold his soul to the lowest bidder.

  15. FSB to recall you to Moscow

Ahem, based on the latest news you have obviously missed, it is the libturds like you who are bought and paid for by the russkies. Get with it, little trollmeister. I am sure there is a Soros or Putin check you need to cash in to sustain your self-delusions.
