  1. From a February article: “The Governor came out against the permitless carry bill last week, noting that residents don’t need a permit to buy a gun, that obtaining a state permit is cheap and that the requirement helps keep criminals from legally carrying hidden firearms.”

In other words, SoDak is ahead of Minnesota on the first two points and he’s weaseling on the third. He knows criminals can carry without a permit: they do it all the time precisely because they can’t get a permit, what with being criminals and all. But they won’t be able to LEGALLY carry without a permit. For them, carrying a gun they’re forbidden to possess will be a double-plus ungood. That’s his basis for making every citizen jump through the hoops.

I wonder how he’d feel about a proposal to require an abortion permit? Or a voting permit? A permit to worship as a Muslim? Even if the permit were quick, cheap and rarely denied, it still would be an instance of government licensing a fundamental right. That is contrary to point of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

  2. Get used to disappointment; it won’t happen here, and MN is not ND. And it is probably still not a good idea there either.

  3. Against my much better judgment, DG, I’m going to let *one* of your comments out of limbo.

(You’ve already ready the conditions for getting a few dozen of your most recent comments out of purgatory – or maybe you haven’t).

I’m always used to disappointment. I’m Scandinavian. Has nothing to do with politics.

But no, DG – Constitutional Carry has been a success in every state where it’s been tried. That’s why it’s gone from two states 20 years ago to I believe 12 with ND, and 2-3 more could pass it yet this year.

And while can certainly say it’ll never happen here, there’s at least one data point that says it might; the fact that you said it wouldn’t. Because the fact that you have asserted something is, if not hard evidence, at least solid indication that the assertion is false.
