Fake News

In New York City police precinct released this tweet over the weekend

From the top, The “arsenal” includes:

  • A toy musket, complete with orange “I am a toy!” Muzzle cap.
  • A BB gun.
  • An airsoft “shotgun”
  • A couple of martial arts practice swords, most likely plastic
  • On the right side –  a garden machete, available for $10 from any Walmart or garden store.
  • And, tuckedin under the butt stock of the BB gun? A single, tiny, 25 caliber pistol, very likely nonfunctional.

We get it – it’s dangerous being a cop.  Weapons in the hands of ne’er-do-wells are a bad thing.

But this sort of thing bespeaks one of two things:

  • Cops who don’t think much of their citizens
  • Cops who are trying to suck up to political leadership who doesn’t think much of their citizens, and would like to see them all “disarmed”.

You know what’s got my vote.

Dimes will get you dollars it fooled the average New Yorker and/or “gun sense” ninny.

  1. I agree with you but would agree more if you said: “Cop PR flacks who are trying to suck up to political leadership…” Seems like a misguided management decision.

  2. If Bloomberg was still the mayor hed have a press conference ejaculating all over them. Your welcome for that image in your mind. 🙂

  3. How is this for fake news. Twisting a story to make it seem like something different. Today’s St Paul PP has a wire service story on Oklahoma abortion law. It says that abortion providers need to have “a special relationship with hospitals”. Really. A special relationship. Further on it says it is “so-called admitting privileges”.

And the government is forcing me to purchase “a special product” if I want to drive a car. The item is “so-called car insurance”.

  4. Do they have quotas on seizing “weapons”? They could be trying to pad their numbers so they don’t have to the week after Christmas.

  5. When I was in my twenties, I actually knew a guy who had lost an eye to a BB gun incident when he was a kid. He was kind of bitter about it. It messed up his looks, and there was no exotic story behind it to tell chicks.

  6. Politifact names “fake news” as its lie of the year:
Fake news found a willing enabler in Trump, who at times uttered outrageous falsehoods and legitimized made-up reports. Clinton emboldened her detractors and turned off undecideds with a lawyerly parsing of facts that left many feeling that she was lying. Her enemies ran wild.

And they also reveal their bias. Hillary’s “lawerly parsing of facts” was done with an intent to deceive and obfuscate. Any fool could see that

Ed Henry: You said you were in charge of it. You were the official in charge. Did you wipe the server?

Hillary Clinton: Like with a cloth or something?

Trump has said outrageous things, but I don’t think that he intended to deceive. If Trump said his wife had the biggest boobs in the world, you might be outraged, but not because he is lying.
