A Good Guy With A Gun: South Dakota Edition

71 year old carry permit holder shoots carjacker in Sioux Falls:

A couple was sitting in their vehicle in the parking lot of the Red Rock Inn on 41st Street when [suspect Edward] LeBlanc attempted to steal their car. Clemens says LeBlanc forced open one of the doors of the car and hit the 71-year-old driver. However, the driver had a handgun in his pocket, and shot LeBlanc twice.

Police eventually located LeBlanc at a nearby McDonald’s. He was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Clemens says the driver, from Bixby, Okla., had a concealed weapon permit and likely will not face any charges. His injuries were not serious.

In Chcago, this would’ve ended with a jacked car, an injured or dead senior citizens and a pristinely unharmed criminal.

I like this way better.

    I’ve always been a big 2nd amendment rights supporter, but never felt the need to get a CC permit (and associated training) myself.
    But then when you read stories like this. 8:30 PM in a busy well-lit area of Sioux Falls. Sioux Falls Argus photos show a Chili’s in the background. Or the incident last year on Mississippi River Blvd in St Paul, you realize that no place is immune to bad guys.
    This item….a 71 year old in a Prius. The criminal probably thought he would be an easy victim.

    Sniff. I love it when a story has a happy ending! And per Chuck’s comment, I’ve got a bit more respect for Prius owners now….well, at least one of them. :^)

    I wonder if a Prius owners natural inclination to conserve resources explains why the old fella didn’t empty his mag on that Democrat.

    Swiftee; but failing to empty the magazine resulted in the perp still breathing, which is a known source of carbon dioxide. Maybe the victim isn’t as environmentally conscious as we thought. :^)

    Or perhaps he was writhing on the sidewalk and the victim figured he wasn’t going to come back for more.

    I wonder if he modified the stock Prius “Coexist” bumper sticker with one where the X is two rifles.
