That Should Fix It

Over the weekend – and before the other Orlando massacre – the Internet was buzzing with the story of the death of Christine Crimmins – one of the instant stars from the TV show “The Voice”.

Any guesses as to whether the law-abiding citizen was allowed to have a gun, where the murder took place?

You get one guess.

That said, it’s worth noting that it’s awfully hard to prevent someone from getting off the first shot or two, even in a “carry allowed” environment.

  2. Note from Mitch: As “Dog Gone” is in the habit of leaving lengthy comments but never coming back to discuss the, er, voluminous errors discovered, I’m annotating her comment.

Should she ever decide to start discussing this, rather than treating my comment section as a metablog of her own, I’ll end this policy.

    Thanks.

I can find no corroboration that the club in question was a gun free zone.

And as usual, Mitch gets his facts wrong, beginning with the victims name. Sloppy sloppy sloppy, and UTTERLY failing to live up to those journalism standards you demand others follow, specifically corroboration and multi-sourcing!

He also omits that the shooter was stopped by the unarmed brother of the victim, or that the shooter was an apparent stalker who planned the attack…….

I’m also waiting to see if Mitch demonstrates the integrity to correct his other recent mistakes — the one about Katie Couric. She neither inserted the pause to which he objects, nor agreed with or approved of it. Further she continues to express that disagreement and disapproval of the edit when given the opportunity.

But hey, in the alternate reality of conservatives, so long as she embarrassed — properly – Sarah Palin, any kind of unfair and unfounded criticism is justified right? Facts? Mitch doesn’t need “no stinkin’ facts”. They get in his way.

Here is a little bit more reality – there is no evidence that more people carrying firearms results in crime prevention or deterrence. Rather, states like Florida which have lax gun laws have higher incidences of gun violence.

And let us throw in that Katie Couric was trying to raise the topic — also addressed recently by Obama in a Town Hall question from a gun store owner — of too lax gun regulation of those who were a terrorist threat, at the point of the documentary where the controversial pause was inserted.

Looks like Couric was correct; it is high time that get more public discussion followed by an effective solution — better gun control / more restriction.

Yup – and the shooter at the Orlando night club? HE had a permit, possibly two different categories of carry permit (one open, for security work known as a type G, the other for private concealed carry). And before you whine about sources, that came from Red State.

Shame on you Mitch; another epic fail.

Night Writer, here is the short version

Mitch got the details wrong, beginning with the victims name. He failed to corroborate his information, or to multi-source — those pesky journalistic standards he’s been bitching about Katie Couric failing to follow.

It does not appear that the club in question was, in fact, a ‘gun free zone’. Rather per reliable main stream journalism sources, like Reuters, it appears there was a check point where patrons bags etc were examined for a variety of contraband, including weapons.

It is NOT however clear that anyone with a permit to carry had to surrender their firearm or were turned away if they chose to enter the premises armed. Given this is Florida, I’m not sure a business serving the public can legally declare themselves a gun free zone under Florida law.

Mitch also — oh, so conveniently / cowardly — left out that the UNARMED victim’s brother stopped the shooter.

  4. DG,

Since you sort of responded to a response, kind of, I’ll dignify your little outburst with more response than it deserves.

I can find no corroboration that the club in question was a gun free zone.

Your shortcomings as a researcher have caused a fair amount of mirth around these parts, DG. You should go back and read, well, all of the previous threads where you’ve dumped and run.

ALL bars are “gun free zones” in Florida. Also all nightclubs, and auditoriums.

Hard to believe your crack research skeelz missed that blazing huge fact of Florida law.

He also omits that the shooter was stopped by the unarmed brother of the victim, or that the shooter was an apparent stalker who planned the attack…….

The first was irrelevant to my point (although kudos to him).

The second supports my point – the larger point that “gun free zones” kill people.

The next one is such an egregious example of your unearned condescension combined with ignorance, it deserves its own comment.

  5. Because apparently Doggone is too stupid to “google” “The Plaza Live” and see if they had a page listing their policies.

    http://www.plazaliveorlando.com/#/venue-info

The signs don’t have legal force in Florida, but if you’re asked to leave, you’re trespassing, and that DOES have legal force.

  6. OK, DG. This one is just hilarious. And on the off chance you’re reading this, I hope you learn something.

I’m also waiting to see if Mitch demonstrates the integrity to correct his other recent mistakes — the one about Katie Couric. She neither inserted the pause to which he objects, nor agreed with or approved of it.

Dumb dumb dumb, DG. Siddown and listen.

On my show, if a caller or bystander yells “FUCK FUCK FUCKITY FUCK”, and the producer doesn’t hit the dump switch, it’s still me who is responsible.

The show’s got my name on it. The buck stops with me. Even on an entertainment program, which is what mine is.

It’s even more true on a news (or “news”) show. Katie Couric portrays herself as a journalist – not to mention executive producer of the show in question. Titles have meanings, bt3w. The buck stops with her (and the other producer/s) for all editorial decisions

It’s the same reason Dan Rather got fired for Mary Mapes’ breach of whatever ethics journalists still observe; it was “The CBS Evening News with Dan Rather” (and he was also the executive producer, meaning “editor of record” in the broadcast news biz). He’s a “journalist”, and it was his name on the product.

Learn your subject before you presume to lecture, much less condescend.

So – are you going to “show some integrity” and admit you were wrong?

  7. Finally,

Further she continues to express that disagreement and disapproval of the edit when given the opportunity.

Doesn’t matter. Not even a little. If you had ever worked in actual journalism, you might know that.

But hey, in the alternate reality of conservatives, so long as she embarrassed — properly – Sarah Palin, any kind of unfair and unfounded criticism is justified right?

    Sarah Palin?

    You’re still jabbering about her?

    Huh?

  8. Finally, DG – and I do hope you get this message (Pen, you wanna help out, here)?

Mitch also — oh, so conveniently / cowardly

    Cowardly. Huh.

Says the anonymous writer / troll, whose wish to remain anonymous I’ve nonetheless respected, even though your habits and language have gotten downright abusive over time. Because I have integrity.

Says the blogger who (reportedly) bans every single dissenting commenter from wherever it is she’s writing these days.

You call me a “coward?” I fart in your general direction. You are a self-parody. I let you continue to abuse my hospitability entirely for entertainment purposes.

The entertainment value is waning. Even I – the most good-natured fella in the blogosphere – have limits. And you’re right up against ’em.

    Think carefully.

    Or just “think” at all.

    Seriously.

  9. The signs don’t have legal force in Florida

Doh. I thought it was a misdemeanor.

    I could be thinking texas.

Either way – easy catch, if you can actually do research.

  10. DG, your fact checking skills didn’t catch this:
    FL law section 790.06
(12)(a) A license issued under this section does not authorize any person to openly carry a handgun or carry a concealed weapon or firearm into:
    12. Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to such purpose;

You rant about Mitch misspelling the victims name but you don’t have a clue about his point. Again you prove yourself a MORON!

  11. JPA; whether alcohol sales means “no gun zone” varies by state. In Minnesota, places that sell alcohol are not no carry zones, but if you have a drink or two, you are violating the law. In Florida, places that are primarily about serving alcohol (bars, nightclubs) are gun free zones.

    http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/florida.pdf

My take on DogGone; it’s amazing how many five second Google searches I’ve done to find that she was completely and utterly full of fertilizer. It takes a special type of narcissist to be proven wrong so consistently, but keep coming back with even more pretentious nonsense.

  12. Aren’t all places that sell alcohol de facto gun free zones?

In some states, they are de jure gun free zones.

In MN, they are not – but it’s illegal to carry with a Blood Alcohol Content over .04, meaning that the sensible carrier (or so I’m told) leaves his gun in the trunk if he’s having as little as a beer.

  13. the good thing about DG, if she asserts that something is true you can bet 1) it isn’t and 2) 5 seconds with google WILL get you the correct information

  14. Those were the short versions Mitch? Sheesh, could you please forward the originals to my secretary, we need some new torture techniques and reading unedited dog gone comments have surprisingly shot to the top of the list. People would rather swim in the lake of fire than read her, er droppings

  15. In other words, Doggy Breath,

    Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy!

    Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Now please go back down into your mommy’s basement, in your little pretend world of fairies, leprechauns and unicorns!

  16. If DG was concerned about actual gun violence, then instead of commenting at SITD, she would post her comments on the social media used by people who actually guns to commit crimes.

  17. I want to take a moment to digress.

One of the things that make SITD so interesting is the people that read and comment here. Unlike leftist pits of failure and stupidity, you find remarkable people here that do remarkable things.

So I want to publicly thank Bento for his hospitality in showing us around his telescopes this week. It was easily among one of the most awesome experiences my wife and I have ever had. How many times will anyone watch the sun set while standing above the clouds? So many thanks for making that long drive to accommodate us!

  18. When standing where we were standing, seeing what we were seeing, even thinking about politics would have been a profane waste of time. Hope I get the opportunity to repay the favor some day!

  19. My take on DogGone; it’s amazing how many five second Google searches I’ve done to find that she was completely and utterly full of fertilizer.

Probably related to that leftist echo chamber she writes for. If it hurts the narrative, it’s a “lie”, regardless of the supporting data.

  20. The Donald Trump branded Republican Convention is still a gun free zone, right?

  21. EI chirped: “The Donald Trump branded Republican Convention is still a gun free zone, right?”

the Secret Service wouldn’t have it any other way!
