Nerdbert, it strikes me that technically, Obama is running the foreign policy of the 1970s, not the 1980s, if you catch my drift.

BB, the 70s were the era of “detente” in the early part, and “engagement” (really, supplication much like Obama’s policy) for later part until Afghanistan changed that to 1960s policy.
So if anything, Obama is going back to Johnson’s policy of containment. I’d be ecstatic if he’d go back to the 1980s policy of bankrupting Russia through an arms race with oil and gas prices hammering Russia’s economy, but Obama can’t be coaxed into spending a dollar more than necessary on the military unless it’s to turn the military into a “green energy” user.

Nerdbert, I’m sticking with the 1970s, as that was the era when Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Nicaragua, Ethiopia, Uganda, and other nations all suffered the ravages of Communism. Kinda like Libya, Turkey, Syria, and other nations are now suffering the ravages of Islamism because of someone’s misbegotten interference.
