The Blind Squirrel

“So let’s get this straight – we have an overwhelming majority of young people supporting a white-haired old man who promises to give them stuff for free.  But I imagine someday they’ll be disappointed when they discover it was really their parents paying for college”.

— Peter Segel, NPR’s “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” over the weekend.

  1. its dawning very slowly on the media that this election is the Baby Boomers last hurrah – to the point look at the three leading contenders for the presidency: Hillary, Bernie, Donald and the republican establishment’s wan hope Jeb – not one of them under the age of retirement. This is about the Boomers desire for a legacy

  2. Mornings like this, when I think we might end up choosing between Bernie and either Trump or Cruz, are truly depressing. We’ll know after March 1 just how much trouble we’re in; it’s probably not as bad as it seems.
Interesting question: If weak nominees and a strong third candidate created a hung electoral college, who would the Republican House of Representatives choose as president? It wouldn’t be Trump (not their idea of a Republican), Cruz (hated by all), Rubio (too new), or Bush (too Bush). Probably Kasich or Paul Ryan; they’re the least disliked, and the House would be afraid of the consequences of making an unpopular choice.

  3. It’s not just that they will get stuff for free, it’s stuff that is being taken from other people these young twits have been trained to believe they have a Gaia given right to.

On another subject, what thee hell are you babbling about Emery? Please just blow some more bubbles in your milk and stfu.

  4. It’s funny that it’s the government shoveling money at colleges that’s actually driven up the costs. And the millennials are too ignorant to realize this simply because they’ve actually had a college education with a solely leftist tilt.

Still, it’d be fair if they try and get something from the geezers at this point. They’re having their earnings stolen to try and pay for Obamacare (young and healthy subsidizing the old and sickly) and the underfunded Social Security system.

  5. Nerd, if you were given free money for doing nothing and repeatedly told your research in LGBT studies was more important than discovering a new reaction or a new algorithm or a new way to split or fuse a particle or discover a lighter, stronger, cheaper material, would you not want more of it?

  6. Sigh. It’s worth noting that the Baby Boomers do have a legacy; 19 trillion bucks in debt and growing, and growing classes of people who think money grows on trees. Let’s destroy that legacy.

  7. Bike, you mean a money tree sold to me be a soft spoken hippie wearing “Feel the Bern” sticker is fake?

  8. The test I use when trying to choose from among a slate of undesirable candidates is:
Don’t vote for anyone who would hate you.
For me this wipes out the Democrat side entirely, and leaves me with Fiorino, Rubio, and Cruz to choose from.

  9. JPA; unless you were in the Centennial State and the tree has seven leaves per stem, yes. :^)

  10. BG: Angry people with cars, homes, plenty to eat, healthcare, tvs, smart phones, jobs and an enormous, rich and powerful nation that listens to them when they vote. They’d complain if they were hanged with a fresh rope.
