Everyone Is One Signature Away From Being A Terrorist

The “gun safety” movement’s latest bright idea is “No Fly, No Buy”; people on one of the various government no-fly/terrorist watch lists would be disqualified from buying guns.

Second Amendment human rights activists oppose the idea, to the deep confusion of anti-gunners, who just don’t understand why it’s a bad idea.

The answer?  It’s a bad idea because government can’t be trusted with lists of people built without due process.  Ever!

I’ve added emphasis:

The Maryland State Police classified 53 nonviolent activists as terrorists and entered their names and personal information into state and federal databases that track terrorism suspects, the state police chief acknowledged yesterday.
Police Superintendent Terrence B. Sheridan revealed at a legislative hearing that the surveillance operation, which targeted opponents of the death penalty and the Iraq war, was far more extensive than was known when its existence was disclosed in July.

You gotta break eggs to make an omelet.

  1. This seems to have been an idea that was brainstormed by some high up Democrat election issues group and broadcast down to whatever today’s equivalent of Ezra Klein’s journolist is (I’m certain that there is one).
    Everyone who isn’t on the Central Committee knows that this is a dumb idea. To tell the truth, when I first heard of this secret list of people singled out for ‘special treatment’, I thought of the Okhrana of Nicholas II.

  2. Angry Al Franken is probably on there, or should be. Wellstoned(!) probably has a posthumous listing. Dianne Finestein is known to carry a weapon; she’s on there. Mark Dayton is a ticking time bomb…he’s gotta be on there. Maxine Waters would be headed straight to Gitmo.

    This could decimate the ranks of anti-American, leftist hate mongers.

  3. TWS;

    I would add to that list;

    Mentally challenged Harry Reid, raving lunatics Alan Grayson, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and Shiela Jackson Lee, clueless CA governor Jerry “airhead” Brown and Nakina Levy-Pounds.

    There are probably a lot more, but most of us already know who they should put on these lists.

  4. “Wellstoned(!) probably has a posthumous listing”
    It has been known to be a very dangerous thing to share an airplane with Wellstone(!)

    DHS monitors social media for criticism of the government, but not visa applicants.
    When I heard about the violent, pro-Jihad, anti-western Malik social media posts the first thing I thought was ‘there probably is no rule that says DHS will reject her Visa application for anything she has said in a Facebook post.’
    The problem isn’t that DHS didn’t see the social media post, the problem is that if they had seen them, some smiling DHS would have smiled, congratulated her, and handed her a Visa. Just following orders . . .

  6. In my recollection, Ted Kennedy is the only one on the “Terrorist List” who has actually killed someone.

  7. Bento, if Wellstoned(!) didn’t run wild through the cockpit with a box cutter, I rekon he was freebasing in the cabin and things went horribly wrong.

  8. I did, Emery. That’s how I know he was an an angry, rude little fellow. Angry and rude is as good a reason to get on the watch list as any other, far as we know.

  9. Can someone answer a question for me – how can we have these lists that severely curtail individual’s constitutional rights without due process?

  10. We have a lot of bureaucrats and corrupt politicians running interference for those creating and running the lists, JPA.
