Unclear On The Concept
By Mitch Berg
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo presides over a state that led the nation in attempting to ratchet up gun control after the Sandy Hook massacre. It also includes New York City, where gun crime is surging in the wake of those restrictions (and, to be fair, Bill DeBlasio’s hapless attitude toward law enforcement, which is rapidly undoing the progress of the Giuliani era). While the “surge” isn’t close to seventies-era levels (when 2,200 a year were being killed), it’s still shaping up to be much worse than the 300 or so from the Giuliani and Bloomberg eras.
Anyway – Cuomo’s proposed solution: More gun control.
And to get it, he wants to shut down government to get the GOP to go along:
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo reiterated his call for Democrats to shut down government in order to force Republicans to support gun control.
Cuomo first issued this demand on September 26 while speaking at the funeral of ex-aide Carey Gabay, who was shot and fatally wounded in one of the numerous shootings surrounding the Labor Day J’Ouvert celebration in Brooklyn.
The New York Daily News quoted Cuomo saying:
If the far right is willing to shut down the government because they don’t get a tax cut for the rich, then our people should have the same resolve and threaten to shut down the government if they don’t get a real gun control law to stop killing of their innocents.
Cuomo doubled down on this demand following the heinous October 1 attack on innocents at Umpqua Community College, saying, “I’d love to see the Democrats stand up and say, ‘We’re going to shut down the federal government or threaten to shut down the government if we don’t get real gun control legislation,’”
Opportunity knocks.

Cuomo used to consider himself a moderate Democrat, in the style of Bill Clinton. Goes to show you how far left the Dems have moved in the last two decades.

Update on last night’s killing in east St Paul. It was random. Guy gets out of his car. Another man walks up to him and shoots him (attempted car jacking?).
I believe it is time for me to purchase a firearm and take the training.

Indeed! Lets put DG on the case – she’s always a persuasive correspondent.

I want a gun for Christmas. And lessons on how to handle and shoot it. Seriously. And no, I don’t think it’s blasphemous. It’s the opposite.

“Cuomo Campaign: Planned Parenthood Funding ‘Critical’”

I really wish there was a filter, I dunno, available on Amazon maybe, that would ensure I’m not inhaling any trace of a breath some Democrat somewhere exhaled. I guess that means I should be happy every time a Democrat stops breathing, but it’s never seems enough do to make a difference.

Cuomo: I’ll hold my breath until I turn blue or you capitulate.
These libturds are worse than children!

Shut down the government? And this would be a problem because…..

Crystal, if you’re serious about buying your first handgun, two things: first: welcome to the shooting world; and second, I recommend you visit some gun ranges and talk to shooters, ask if you can try their firearms, see what feels good in your hand.
Sad but true, most shooting ranges are full of old White guys, women are few and far between. The guys will be falling all over themselves to give you advice. Take the advice with a grain of salt – everybody has an opinion – but seize the chance to shoot different makes, models, calibers, sizes, to see what feels comfortable. If it’s comfortable, you’re confident; if you’re confident, you’re accurate; if you’re accurate, you’re deterring the aggressor.
When you have an idea what gun you want but before you buy, ask around for a firearms trainer and interview them to see who feels comfortable. Sexist opinion alert: I think women shooters learn better from women instructors, certainly better than from their husbands: maybe it’s less baggage, less sexual tension, whatever. Consider finding a woman instructor to help refine your firearms selection and teach you the basics of shooting.
If you live near the Twin Cities, my wife and I would be happy to take you shooting, you can try out her pistol or some of mine. Shoot an email to Mitch, he can coordinate it and join us.

Every time I get a little glimpse of optimism for the future, I am reminded that our cities, counties, states and nation…in far to many cases…are being run by complete idiots.
However, it is heartening to see that Roseburg OR is rejecting Obama’s attempt at exploitative grandstanding over the bodies of the shooting victims…realizing it for just what it is.

I believe Mitch is already organizing a little outing for the middle of this month.
My wife had the chance to shoot several different guns at Joel Rosenberg’s “wake”. She like the Ruger LCP, which lead her to the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .380, which was more comfortable in her hand, which she bought. Recently she came across a Taurus TCP (also a .380) that felt really good so she bought that, too. We haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet, but if it does well she’ll likely make that her carry piece.

There’s a bit of an expedition in the works. Shoot me an IM or something.

Are democrats really willing to do this? If they are I say call their bluff and see who blinks first now to Boehner is gone

“If the far right is willing to shut down the government because they don’t get a tax cut for the rich…” I must have missed the attempt to shut down government because of a tax cut “for the rich”. I may be wrong, but what tax cut in recent years went only to one sub-set of earners? And what is the “far right”? It differs from “the right”…how? What a dork.
