Things Can’t Be Too Bad

New Jersey Democrat Frank Pallone is proposing to investigate…

Fantasy football.

No more worries about terrorists, economic stagnation, the impending bond bubble, the entitlement a balloon or a nuclear Iran.

It’s almost enough to make me want to take up the pastime.

  1. Until he wants to investigate State Lotteries because there’s no difference between lotteries and gambling except a “loophole,” I’m not terribly interested.

  2. If you are going to investigate gambling, how about the Indian casinos. I see non-stop commercials of all these happy people winning money. I do believe almost no one wins money at a casino. Most lose. Many lost big. Many steal money to support their losses.

  3. Well, you can’t advertise $2 billion in payouts (while paying NFL air-time advertising costs) without some Congress-critter showing up and saying, “Nice little game you got here. Shame if something were to happen to it.”

  4. Chuck, a few years ago I visited an Indian casino up near Bayfield, Wisconsin. It was a poor casino. The parking lot wasn’t paved. All the cars parked there were dented and rusted. The casino’s ATM was broken (!?). I stuck a dollar’s worth of quarters in a slot machine and it payed out $60. I’m not much of a gambler, so I took the money and left.
I felt guilty. Maybe my win meant they wouldn’t be able to make payroll that week.

  5. Remember to gamble responsibly! Also, remember to drink responsibly, and to discharge your fireworks responsibly,
Twenty years ago you could smoke cigarettes responsibly by smoking in a designated area, or rolling down the window if there was a child in your car. There is now no way to smoke cigarettes responsibly. Don’t even try.

  6. The default position of any self-respecting democrat ought NOT be to regulate fantasy football, but TAX it.

  7. Since I’m not the gambling type, I’ll bet dollars to donuts that some supporter of his, or someone on his staff, or maybe even someone in his family, made a stupid call with some FF website, lost a ton of money, and decided to use Pollone’s governmental position to exact revenge.
