Just What We Need
By Johnny Roosh

…is a jilted, pissed off President, with a bent for Socialism, who can now refocus on bringing our nation to the brink of insolvency.
South America gets its first games: The 2016 Olympics are going to Rio de Janeiro
Chicago was knocked out in the first round — in one of the most shocking defeats ever [emphasis happily mine-JR] in International Olympic Committee voting. Even Tokyo, which had trailed throughout the race, did better — eliminated after Chicago in the second round.
I feel bad for Chicago. Nonetheless, Mr. President, and with all due respect: In your face!
You will have to find other less public forms of payback to your cronies in Illinois…and you would be well advised to brace for impact as more “shocking defeats” are almost certainly in the offing for you, sir.

I don’t feel badly for Chicago. They just saved a ton of money and by extension so did the rest of the country since Daley would just have leaned on Obama for more “stimulus” money to finance the boondoggle.

Frankly, I’m glad we lost the Olympics. We are in a recession, we don’t need to spend 10’s of billions of dollars for 2 weeks of world glory.
Canada finished paying off their debts from the 1976 Montreal Olympics….in 2006
Officials in Nagano, Japan spent so much on the Olympics that they destroyed the financial records
Athens 2004 was budgeted for $1.6 billion but ended up spending $16 billion
London was originally budgeted for $8 billion but they are already at $19 billion with almost 3 years left to go
And the winner? China’s 2006 Olympics were budgeted at 1.6 billion, but cost 40 billion, with the birds nest stadium costing 15 million per year in ongoing maintenance. They are converting part of it to a shopping center hoping to recoup some of that maintenance cost.
Wouldn’t surprise me to see an Olympics in Chicago cost $50bil or more. Chicago and Illinois wouldn’t have that kind of cash available to cover it. You know Barry’d have only one thing to say to his old stomping grounds: I got your back.

Even better for Chicago, the fact of the matter is that the Olympics are mostly Daley’s idea for covering his back. Hopefully the same resistance that accompanied the Olympic plans will finally remove Chicago’s first crime family from the mayor’s offices and let that city rebuild from the disasters of the past.
Maybe I’m dreaming too big.

I feel bad for Valerie Jarrett. What’s she going to do with all of the crumbling public housing she was going to sell? No Olympic Village for Valarie.

You have to wonder how so many racists got on the IOC committee. I mean, they didn’t deny Chicago an olympics when the white guy was in the White House.
October 2nd, 2009 at 3:08 pm
I called it yesterday… but I digress. The IOC gave a big f*** you to Obama. I’d be willing to bet it was those videos that cost them the games. Great publicity, still going out in the 1st round of balloting was awesome. “The Ego has landed” love that headline from Drudge.

You guys aren’t looking at the big picture.
Obama didn’t want to succeed at this. He wanted to kill the project. There is no upside for him in having the national spotlight on the pay-for-play corruption that is Chicago politics.
Either that or he’s a small-time politician promoted far beyond his abilities, and he’s too narcissistic to realize it.
October 2nd, 2009 at 5:58 pm
I would look at the fact that Salt Lake exposed the IOC’s fraud and bribery, last time around.
That and when the Daley machine was 300% over budget after the second week people would be calling for Romney to take over again.

That pretty much covers it.

He spends his political capital about as wisely as he spends stimulus money.

Another defeat for America. Wingnuts rejoice!
October 4th, 2009 at 10:16 am
for America
No, silly clown! For Obama!
Because while the left loves cults of personality, the leader is not synonymous with the country!
October 4th, 2009 at 11:32 am
Definitely wouldn’t want all that construction and tourist spending to stay here in the U.S., eh? Much better in Brazil. Of course you wingnuts rewrite history by pretending Chicago was the odds-on favorite. The IOC was obviously hoping to bring the Olympics to South America for the first time. Chicago was a safety choice.

Rio has budgeted $14.4 Billion. Would you assert the same point if Chicago, net/net lost money on the deal and the difference was made up by taxpayers? …and Billions – that Chicago, the State of Illinois, and the United States doesn’t happen to have sitting around right now – would need to be spent up-front?
Liberals don’t have to take this into account, because it’s always OPM.

wingnuts rewrite history by pretending Chicago was the odds-on favorite.
And you moonbat(s) rewrite it further by pretending I cared.
Seriously – I haven’t given at rat’$ a$$ about the summer olympics since I was a kid.
Seriously – the IOC and Chicago’s government in the same place? The perfect storm of pettifoggery and corruption might have consequences on the weather.

Yet somehow Chicago manages to dwarf the quaint Twin Cities, economically and in international prestige.
October 4th, 2009 at 8:55 pm
Not to mention football.

Not today it doesn’t.

New punditry: President Obama is making a “Olympian effort”.
With Rio in the Southern Hemisphere wouldn’t it be summer Olympics in the winter?
October 5th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
If Dear Leader wants to make an Olympian effort, I’d suggest laying off the cancer sticks. :^)
And it looks like the taxpayers dodged a bullet here. None of the numbers from Daley made any sense, and we’d have been talking about tens of billions of dollars to cover up Daley’s incompetence. Yikes.
