Doakes Sunday: Accessories

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

Story makes the point the woman in the car who survived because she was wearing her seatbelt (politically correct), whereas the motorcycle riders who died were not wearing helmets (politically incorrect).

Completely missed the point that she had a stop sign, stopped for it, then pulled out in front of the motorcycle.  She caused the accident.  She killed those men, not their helmets or lack thereof.

Narratives gotta get narrated, dammit.

  1. Don’t forget, if she had been driving an SUV, then it would have been the SUV’s fault. not the driver’s fault. That would have trumped the fact that they weren’t wearing helmets.

  2. Don’t forget, the majority of drivers believe they are above average behind the wheel.

  3. This is exactly why I try to make eye contact with drivers before entering an intersection–right of way means bupkus when it’s 4000 lbs of metal vs. the 29 of my LaTour III. I am guessing that doing so would be more difficult in a motorcycle, though, due to its speed.
