Doakes Sunday: Sounds And Fury, Signifying Music

By Mitch Berg

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

I’m working my way through two inches of abstract of title to a parcel of real estate, preparing to write an Attorney’s Opinion on Title, while listening to “Truckin” by the Grateful Dead.  Enjoying my job today, the music is a big part of it.

What do other SITD readers listen to?

Joe Doakes

The only recording artists on my list are Slim Whitman and Enya. Why does anyone need to listen to anything else?

So, really. Hillbilly yodeling is not as popular as I thought it was? You know, even the good stuff? Hank Snow and Jimmy Rodgers? Slim Whitman is okay, and a true artiste, of course, but he’s planting the ground first plowed by Hank Snow and Jimmy Rodgers.
Kids these days. Can’t tell music from noise.

Will you be working at the new ‘Thirty Meter Telescope’ on Mauna Kea when it’s completed?
