So in 1938 GB, France, and the US invade Germany and occupy it. Then what.
THEN WHAT?
That was the question we didn’t have straight in our minds when we invaded Afghanistan, when we invaded Iraq, when we killed Gaddafi.
It is a question the supper hawks still can’t answer today.

There’s no need to shout.
They occupy it, remove the Nazis from power and the significant ones from public life, build democratic institutions, and point the people toward the threat to the east. Keep troops on the scene as long as it takes to make sure order is maintained and the integrity of the country is protected (even to the point of confrontation on the Germans’ behalf).
Which is what turned Germany into a democracy 10 years later.
We had a shot at doing that in Iraq (albeit with a bloody false start), before Obama blew it. Afghanistan, being a country locked in the 7th century that’s been through forty years of constant war, is a tougher nut, and Obama will blow that too. Libya? Not even close.

Mitch:
The problem we have is that President Obama, Joe Biden, Susan Rice, Hillary Clinton, and the peace movement doesn’t read Victor and understand the disaster that is happening. I don’t read Victor the second he comes out, but I do understand what is happening because Obama and the democrats don’t want to act.

In 1938 we would have been RE-building democratic institutions. Because they had perfectly respectable democratic institutions only a few years before. They failed for reasons that would not have been resolved at the point of a gun.

What VDH missed and should have stressed was, like current day, in 1938 American Democrats were undertaking their first signicant attempt to impose socialism on the polity.
