We Have To Try To Share A Country With These People

By Mitch Berg

“Kathy”, in a komment on Jeff Rosenberg’s bit on Bachmann’s “wrist” remark over on MNPublius:

Not only should Michele Bachmann supporters slit their wrists in solidarity with this crazy loon, they might as well slit their throats as well.

The scary part?  “Kathy’s” vote counts the same as a smart, functional person’s does.

The scarier part?  I have yet to see a single leftyblogger oppose the murder of conservatives.

(Oh, I’m being tongue in cheek.  I just don’t think most of those people are).

One of the regular commenters at MNPuberty once said that anyone who attended a GOP fundraiser should be “shot in the face”.

    Sick group over there.

Well, we’d have to speak out against the suicide of conservatives, since they would be slitting their own throats.

Hey Stoo, check Obamassiah’s polling. There’s a lot of self-immolation going on, but it ain’t the GOP.

Bachmann’s comments about slitting wrists to become some sort of blood brothers was unfortunate for many reasons. There is an extensive historic custom of blood oaths, usually involving a superficial cut on the hand, or further up the forearm, NOT the wrist, as a means of making an oath more dramatic and important. Slitting a wrist is a form of suicide.

Sorry to be pedantic here; but I recently researched a post on oaths, vows, and promises, and for reasons of length, left out blood oaths. Having all the research info still in my head, I couldn’t resist using a little of it.

Given that there is a problem with some maladjusted teenagers (and sadly, adults too) who cut themselves deliberately for complex reasons relating to brain chemistry and emotions, advocating this is a bit like advocating getting drunk as part of a solution or form of making a commitment. Not a positive or constructive choice at best, even speaking metaphoricaly or symbolicaly.

Given that Bachmann – we can only hope – was not seriously advocating an actual cutting of body bits or co-mingling of blood (ill-advised given blood born diseases), but rather a symbolic blood-oath-LIKE commitment, others comments on her blood oath statement, about slitting one’s own throat, can presumably be viewed as equally metaphorical rather than literal. I find it ludicrous that anyone, on either side here, is advocating physicaly injuring themselves or anyone else.

    Shelly Bachmann has nice eyes.

Almost as nice as President Obama’s ears.

No the scary part is, that in a pinch, “Kathy’s” vote gets counted twice.
