Shot in the Dark

He Had A Golden Ticket

Fresch Fisch got an invite to Senator Klobuchar’s  “Tele-Town Hall”:

And it sure sounded on the up-and-up:

Dear :_____

As someone who has previously contacted our office to share your thoughts on issues important to you, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to participate in a live statewide healthcare tele-town hall meeting this Sunday, August 23 rd , at 7:00 PM…Once you’re registered, you’ll get an automated reminder phone call on Friday evening and you’ll be called again on Sunday to be joined to the call.  The phone number you provide will be kept private.

I look forward to hearing from you on Sunday.

Sincerely,

Amy Klobuchar
United States Senator

I’d have certainly taken that as an encouraging sign!

As did Fisch!

I was really pumped! Maybe all those calls to her Minnesota and Washington offices paid off! I even received my follow up call on Saturday. I was really looking forward to Sunday night.

But we were both wrong:

6:45, 6:50, 7:00, no call, maybe they are just busy, maybe it’s running late. Then at 7:15 I received my recorded message from Amy saying she “missed me”. How could she have “missed me”, I was home since 5 or so. She explained I could listen to a recording of her town hall on her website. If my call was as 7:15, was it over yet? I guess when no one is dissenting, things go pretty fast.

A fifteen minute town hall?  For government work, that is pretty dang amazing!

Seriously – I know there were a few conservatives out there who’d heard from A-Klo about these meetings.  Did anyone actually get “the call?”

Or did A-Klo’s office decide you were racist Nazis?

Fisch:

I guess maybe I didn’t call her office enough I’ll start calling more.

I think that’s a fine plan.

Maybe a bunch of us need to call on her.

I participated in the call, which I wrote about here. When the call started, A-Klo said that it was because the equipment was overwhelmed by the amount of people participating in the call.

FWIW, I thought A-Klo went out of her way to distance herself from the House bill. She tried hard to portray herself as a capitalist, too, which didn’t work in my estimation.

I agree with Mitch. Keep calling her offices. Without all those calls, there’s no way she would’ve hidden her socialist tendencies like she did last night.

I called her office this morning and told her staffer that what she did was worse than nothing. This is Democrat paperhanging at it’s worst.

Call her, and tell everyone you know to call her.(Be polite but firm)

I understand that there have been similar complaints about Michele Bachmann’s electronic town hall meetings.

I didn’t have a chance to listen to her on Mitch’s program on Saturday; so far the podcast doesn’t seem to be up. Any ideas Mitch when that will be available? When I miss the show I try to catch up later.

Apparently the line was busy the entire half hour Bachmann was scheduled, so callers who had questions couldn’t get through. I didn’t call this past weekend, but I have not been able to get a question or comment on Mitch’s show for sometime. I’m either told to call later – and don’t get through, or I’m put on hold and hung up on repeatedly. I prefer to believe that Mitch would not intentionally prevent differing points of view; that has never been my experience before, but for whatever reason – even inadvertant – it is the pattern now.

By all means be critical, but lets be even handed with that criticism.

These problems may be common to all the represenatatives and senators, both sides of the aisle, to some degree – much higher than anticipated volumes of participants, live, by phone, online.

I’ll allow that technical difficulties are both possible and impartial.

However, it needs to be noted that Rep. Bachmann has scheduled several face-to-face town hall meetings (as noted in our interview Saturday); A-Klo has not.

Podcast should be up later today or tomorrow.

May I take that to be true of your radio show caslls, as well as the other events under discussion? I would be delighted if that is the explanation, but given the generality of your answer, I feel a need to clarify that.

As for Senator Klobuchar, I commend her for doing her best to do the work of two senators for months on end with the staff she had. It was my impression – and if I am incorrect, I trust someone will point it out to me – that the reason for what Klobuchar was trying to do was to accommodate a larger number of people than are scheduled by Bachmann. I have only been aware of one face to face town hall by Bachmann to date. What dates are you referring to?

Are you sure Mitch you are not confusing ‘forums’, where no questions are taken from attending constituents with town hall meetings btw? Her electronic events have had all the same ‘technical’ problems and allegations of screening out opposing / difficult questions that you assert for Klobuchar.
