To Everything (Turn Turn Turn) There Is A Season (Turn Turn Turn)…

By Mitch Berg

Twentysomething cops on the Jersey Shore have no idea who Bob Dylan is:

Rock legend Bob Dylan was treated like a complete unknown by police in a New Jersey shore community when a resident called to report someone wandering around the neighborhood.Dylan was in Long Branch, about a two-hour drive south of New York City, on July 23 as part of a tour with Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp that was to play at a baseball stadium in nearby Lakewood.

A 24-year-old police officer apparently was unaware of who Dylan is and asked him for identification, Long Branch business administrator Howard Woolley said Friday.

“I don’t think she was familiar with his entire body of work,” Woolley said.

“Oh, hey, Angela – isn’t he da guy from da Victoria’s Secret ads?”

  1. Mr. D Says:

You’re back. For a minute there I thought the local cops (Cherry Tops) had arrested SITD.

  2. Night Writer Says:

They might have recognized him in Paterson, NJ.

  3. Yossarian Says:

A couple years ago, Bob Dylan came into the boxing gym where I train in jiu-jitsu. He did some boxing sparring prior to a concert he performed down here. I was, unfortunately, absent that night. Everyone in the gym got backstage passes.

    I’m still bitter. . .

  4. justplainangry Says:

What? No “Who do you know who I am?” speech? No tantrums? No resisting arrest? No derogatory language?

  5. justplainangry Says:

    I train in jiu-jitsu.

Mental note – don’t pick a fight with Yoss.

  6. Yossarian Says:

Actually, don’t pick a fight with Bob Dylan. I guess he’s not a bad boxer.

  7. Mr. D Says:

They might have recognized him in Paterson, NJ.

In Paterson that’s just the way things go.
If you’re black you might as well not show up on the street
less you wanna draw the heat.

  8. Master of None Says:

We’d recognize him out on Highway 61

  9. Right Says:

Why was Dylan axed for his ID, because he’s a white man in America?

“Actually, don’t pick a fight with Bob Dylan. I guess he’s not a bad boxer.”

That should be, “Actually, don’t pick a fight with Bob Dylan. I guess he wears Depends.”

  10. buzz Says:

what was the legal reason for any of this to even take place? Walking down the street suspicious these days? So what if he didn’t have id? When did we have to carry our papers? Cute story about a legend not being recognized, but if anyone had a reason to yell about this it would be Dylan.

  11. Chuck Says:

Actually Bob should write a book called “Jewish in America” and talk about his police harrassment. Maybe he can get into Harvard. The professional victim game is pretty lucrative.

  12. Kermit Says:

Buzz pondered “what was the legal reason for any of this to even take place?” (without capitalizing his sentence).
One of the cops at the scene stated they thought he may have walked away from a hospital. Not unreasonable, given Mr. Zimmerman’s general appearance.

  13. Terry Says:

I imagine that if a bewildered looking white guy walks around in the hood the cops think he’s looking for drugs or a hooker.
The drug dealers and the hookers seem to home on the bewildered-white-guyness. At least they do on Cops.
