One thing I try to do when discussing things like AK-47’s with those that are afraid of them is to remind people that in america they are not automatic weapons. FAR too many people assume that they are always automatic. It really helps to calm thier fears, the next step is to point out that Dad’s old deer rifle is probably more powerful than the AK and especially so when discussing M-16/M-4 clones. If they go off on the assault rifle B.S. then I also get into assesories, things like a collapsing stock/folding stocks etc. Helps to diffuse the scary black gun myths and fears.
