The Suspense Was Killing Me

Headline on USN’nWR: Sanford Affair Will Hurt Republicans in the South, Democratic Strategists Say.

Democratic strategists say the much-publicized moral lapses of Republican Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina will damage the GOP brand in the South.

Whew.  I’d wondered if Democratic strategists were going to spin this to show the affair – also “anything” – was going to help the GOP.

I thought the Sanford affair was the fault of the previous administration.

It’s funny to see you guys so deeply in denial. Witnessing the unexplainable self-destruction of yet another Republican with presidential ambitions reminds Angryclown of a line near the end of “The Hunt for Red October.”

    “Andrei, you’ve lost another submarine?”

Since the topic is Journalistic Excellence, parse this sentence (well, conglomeration of clauses, anyhow) from Marc Ambinder re journalists and conflicts of interest:

We participate in sponsored dinners, off-the-record dinners; roundtables; we exchange information with our sources, etc.; Each situation is different, and as a general rule, good journalists have a good gut sense about what’s right and wrong. There are no written rules for our profession, only habits and customs, enforceable mostly by peer pressure and shaming.

‘As a general rule, good journalists have a good gut sense about what’s right and wrong’. What does this say about the reaction of any particular journalist who is open to the charge of a conflict of interest? Nothing at all, really. If they area good journalist they might know that that they have a conflict of interests, but that doesn’t mean that they handle the situation ethically or ever have their actions put under review by other journalists.

    Associated Press – Coordinates 0,0

Chancellor Martok of the Klingon High Council released a statement today from Earth on the Sanford affair and stated “This will harm the federation in ways many and far-reaching, [grunting noises].”

Federation representatives were not available for comment.

    Ka’plah!

  7. Troy Says:

The only person I heard hawking Sanford was Mike Gallagher. Mike doesn’t impress me, so the endorsement was ineffectual, and I wasn’t too impressed with Sanford the few times I heard him speak. Is there any good reason why Sanfords stupid streak is such a blow to Republicans?

  8. angryclown Says:

Cause it seems to run straight through the party. Sanford, Ensign, Palin are just the latest bizarre meltdowns among national Republicans.

  9. Troy Says:

Luckily for Republicans, the “latest bizarre meltdowns” among national Democrats are happening in the highest executive and legislative offices.
