Saint Gruber

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

This is why the cities of Brooklyn Park, Waite Park and Lake Park need to pay more taxes: so Saint Paul gets more LGA for an $8 million public library in the city’s wealthiest neighborhood, Highland Park.

Meanwhile, my street still hasn’t been plowed or even sanded, and the Mayor wants Congress to pay for street repairs.

No reason to prioritize when you’re spending Other People’s Money.

Proponents of the system will tell you that the money comes from two different sources; that there’s no way the library money could be spent on the streets.

In other words, they’re “Grubering” you.

  1. I live within four blocks of that library. Yet my street remains un-sanded. Tuesday night a guy slid into the back of my parked car. Haven’t seen it yet this year, but last year we had school buses backing down the hill, when they failed to get over it.

  2. The PiPress article said the library added an Outdoor Reading Garden. As I type, the wind chill is -8. Glad to know the city spent on money on an useless amenity instead of boring old sand for your street. Thought it was only in my neighborhood (we have a $1 million outdoor refrigerated ice rink) for kids to play hockey. Outside. In the winter. When it’s already freezing.
