A Simple Request…
By Mitch Berg
…for everyone in the mainstream media, alternative media, and talk radio – even conservative talk radio:
Unless you work at a Red Wing outlet store and are changing your shelving, could you never, Ever, EVER use the term “Boots on the Ground” again? It’s gone so far beyond cliché, light leaving “cliché” right now won’t reach us until our great-grandchildren are getting AARP cards.
“Troops in the field” actually works.
Thank you all in advance for seeing to this.
That is all.

A new pair of boots for everyone in the Levant?
are we air dropping them why not just truck them in?
is this some kind of “Hearts and Minds” effort “grab them by the feet…”?
is this a stimulus program, if so are the boots actually manufactured in the US?
why boots and not Nikes?
aren’t there homeless people in Minneapolis that should get a new pair of boots first?
I don’t understand.

Alternatively, all references to “boots on the ground” should be required to have a link to this video.

Heh, I refer to us IT techs at work… the ones who actually do the work of “twisting knobs, pushing buttons, turning screws and solving customer issues” instead of leading teams, managing projects, managing teams, or otherwise making policy decisions…as “boots on the ground” techs.

Mr. berg …Thank you for that.
Add any other rarely before used word or term that normally is reserved for those familiar with, or whose actual activities can be described by that piece of language, that suddenly starts a chain reaction of repetition by those whose actual activities include public communication. Reporterettes using gritty street slang, media types using “cop talk”, and anyone who has not served (like me) but use military language (‘Nam for Vietnam always bugged me when used that way).

“and anyone who has not served (like me) but use military language “
come on, I love the phrase “vertical predawn insertion”

You can’t put Boots on the Ground until the diplomats have worked out an Status of Forces Agreement and the lawyers have polished up the Rules of Engagement.
“Wingtips on the Parquet” is more like it.

Can we say “golf shoes on the ground” instead?
