Of No Use Whatsoever

The BATFE is now collecting racial data when you go to buy a gun:

With little fanfare, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in 2012 amended its Form 4473 — the transactional record the government requires gun purchasers and sellers to fill out when buying a firearm — to identify buyers as either Hispanic, Latino or not. Then a buyer must check his or her race: Indian, Asian, black, Pacific Islander or white.

Now, the purpose of the form is supposed to be to collect information needed to screen potential purchasers for criminal background.

So what’s race got to do with it?

…“This issue concerns me deeply because, first, it’s offensive, and, secondly, there’s no need for it,” said Evan Nappen, a private practice firearms lawyer in New Jersey. “If there’s no need for an amendment, then there’s usually a political reason for the change. What this indicates is it was done for political reasons, not law enforcement reasons.”

Yet another example of politicized “law enforcement”.

  1. Obama Administration press release:

Our study of BATFE data shows that Black people are denied permission to purchase firearms at higher rates than White people. The most frequent reason given for denial was felony conviction. This is consistent with the well-documented existence of racism in the criminal “justice” system that is exemplified by the recent tragic killing of a Black child by a White police officer in Missouri.

The data also shows that Women purchase far fewer firearms than men, which no doubt stems from our oppressive history of patriarchal gender stereotypes.

It is intolerable in a civilized society that White Men should unfairly enjoy privileges denied to Women and Persons of Color; therefore, I am issuing an Executive Order directing BATFE deny all applications from White Men to purchase firearms until the number of firearms owned by Women and Persons of Color is fairly proportional to their representation in the population.

There will be some who say I cannot do this, that it’s unconstitutional. But I am a Constitutional scholar and I know differently. I know this great nation is not obligated to hand out machine guns like candy to every White Man so they can send more poor innocent Black children to their bullet-ridden graves. I know we can enact sensible, reasonable limitations consistent with modern 21st Century needs. I know I must act today and therefore I am doing it. For the Children.

  2. Perhaps the BATFE could follow the DNR’s deer management program as a model to address this? The feds could put all data pertaining to White men who wish to purchase a firearm from a dealer in a hopper and have a lottery.

A predetermined allowable number of White male gun purchasers could be established, and that number of applicants could be drawn. This could be done whenever the numbers become unacceptable. It’s only fair …
