Our National Monologue

When people say they want a “dialog about race”, what they really mean is “let’s have a monologue where I talk and you listen”.

Now, I don’t talk much about race. As a matter of fact, I do think listening is a better approach on the subject – and while I’m the only person I can speak for, it’s advice I think pretty much everyone in the world should follow anyway. Even you, Al Sharpton.

But I saw this video – from a group called “Kids of Ferguson”, which is plausible if you assume the Kids of Ferguson are world-class videographers and editors.

And this is what our “dialog” is?

“Hey, white people!”.

Apparently, my skin color is my only defining feature.

Who knew?

(By the way – the kids’ t-shirts say “Racism’s not over, but I’m over racism”?  I’m gonna guess if I said exactly that, I would be told I can’t be “over racism” because…I’m Caucasian?  How does that work?)

Let’s pretend for a moment that “dialog” is what anyone’s looking for.  Here’s my side of it – just three points, really, not that anyone cares:

People Are People – And That’s A Bad Thing:  Everyone, of all skin tones – white, black, brown – is equally worthless. No, seriously – that’s part of the Christian creation story.  Mankind is fallen.  People, as groups, are pretty much always awful – collections of stereotypes and group dogmas, pretty much.  Ick.

People Are Individuals, If You Let Them:  If you’d like to try and get to know me as an individual, I’ll return the favor.   There’s more to you than your skin color, you say? (You do say that, don’t you?  Martin Luther King did, anyway)  Anyway – bully for you!  Me too!  I mean, come on – “white?”  Any label that includes Swedes and Italians and pre-Arab North Africans, or Icelanders and Hungarians and Armenians, is meaningless anyway – just like any term that includes Bantus, Tutsis and Ethiopians.    Anyway – Martin Luther King once said he dreamed people would one day judge his children by the contents of their hearts rather than the color of their skin.  I’m the last guy to try to speak for Dr. King, but that video has got to have him puking in his grave.

People Are Also Trash, If You Let Them:  Let’s take a test.  You see a group of drunk, aggressive teenagers coming down the street.   You can’t make out their skin tone yet – it’s dark – but what do you do?  “Take precautions, because drunk teenagers are just about the worst plague in the world, whatever their hue?”  You win the freaking cookie.  Here’s the deal;  you wanna treat me like an individual human person, I’ll return the favor with interest.  I’m less worried about the color of your skin than your attitude.  You wanna talk?  We’ll talk.  You wanna be a dink?  I’ll ignore you.  You present me a threat of death or great bodily harm?   That’d be a bad decision.

Everything in between is negotiable.

You want a “conversation about race?”  Talk to me.  Not to the stereotype you’ve been told you’re talking to.  And I’ll try to do the same.

Problem is, I don’t think the “Kids of Ferguson” are being taught any such thing.

  1. This whole thing has 2 pertinent groups in my opinion: The power brokers who are using race to divide the population of the country, and how evil they are; and the population which is so dimwitted and brainwashed (thank you Karl Marx plank #10), that they don’t realize they are but pawns in a larger game. I think there is a high likelihood that things are going to end up most unpleasant for them by the time they realize what happened and they realize that it’s too late for them to do anything about it.

  2. Everyone, of all skin tones – white, black, brown – is equally worthless.

Oh, I don’t know. I feel positively “chosen”.

  3. Probably done in a round-about way by Stormfront or similar. Will certainly serve as a recruiting tool for same.

  4. Don’t know about the St. Louis area, but in Minneapolis the three private schools that are graduating almost 100% of their predominantly low-income African-American and Hispanic students are funded largely by white Catholics and evangelicals.

  5. I’m sick of whiny blacks. They are discriminated against, that’s a fact. But at no time in history have there been more opportunities for black Americans to be successful.

So stop giving racists fuel. Take care of your kids, stop dealing drugs, stop shooting each other, stop trashing your neighborhoods, stay in school.

This video just pissed me off…

  6. I see things like this and I wonder: what will people who learned nothing but victimization do when It All Ends?

Remember when the EBT cards failed for a short time last October? Panic and riot until Walmart managers literally gave away the store to pacify low income “customers.” Short-term solution worked because the cards started working again and Walmart restocked.

If China and the EU decide the “full faith and credit” of people like Nancy Pelosi and Barak Obama isn’t worth much, the dollar could crash and our economy would take a dive that would make the recent Great Recession look like a blip. If creditors forced the Feds into a pay-as-you-go cash basis budget, welfare would be eliminated.

What would people like the folks in that video do? Blame Whitey for discriminating against Blacks? What would low-income customers (Black and White) do about it? Panic? Riot? Steal from Walmart until it’s empty? Great, and then what? If the EBT card never comes back on, if Walmart never restocks, if all you know is how picked on you are because White peoples is racissss, how do you survive?

I’m not saying everybody in America should learn basic survival tricks as a Boy Scout, or tuck away a year’s worth of food as the Mormons do. But would it be so bad if they did? Would the nation be worse than it will be using what these kids were taught to say in this video?

Because you’d probably end up on a government watch list if you did.

  8. It strikes me that, in stereotyping all caucasians as just “white” in skin tone and outlook on life, that the “civil rights activist” crowd is nigh unto as bigoted as Bull Connor. As anyone who has watched Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton has known for a good long time, of course.
