They Know What Matters

Twin Cities’ media all atwitter over over a candidate – GOP, naturally – allegedly hanky-pankying with a realtor.

It’s NEWS, dammit!

Unlike Governor Dayton’s mental health, Rep. Ryan Winkler’s racism, Senator Sandy Pappas’ support for terrorists, Rep. Phyllis Kahn’s attempts at voter suppression (no, not in DFL terms, the real one), the extremely cozy relationship between Governor Dayton and his ex-wife’s attack-PR firm, to say nothing of complicated stuff like the effect DFL tax and wage policy is having on business and jobs around Minnesota.

Nothing to see there.  Move along, peasants.

  1. I’m not up on this. They are trying to Alinsky someone that dated someone that was in legal and publicly known divorce proceedings?

    What is the scandal?

  2. Apparently it was a little bit more titillating and juvenile than just “date”. “Allegedly” the Realtor used her access to houses that were on the market to “hold trysts” with him. They deny it, and at the very minimum there are some sensually suggestive texts that were hacked out of her phone by a vindictive ex-husband who released them to the media.

Like I said on FB, in today’s day and age, you better have an absolutely papal level of squeaky clean digital history if you plan on running for state or national office. Especially if you are a Republican, because you can bet your ass, that the Dems are going to spend boatloads of money scouring everything they can get their hands on for the slightest scandalous information that can be tied to the Republican candidate. We saw it with Emmer, Laura Brod, Amy Koch, the judicial candidate a couple weeks ago with her maybe/maybe not DWI (altho that is not private, but a matter of public record), and now Gilbert. I’m sure there are others out there I’m not aware of as well. Frankly, no matter how stand-up of a guy Gilbert may be (and the little I’ve met and talked to him, he seemed like a great guy), he let his southern head prevail over his northern head with this one. There was a distinct lack of judgement, and anyone who’s been around as long as Gilbert should know better than to even release a single WORD about his dalliances into the digital ether, because someone, somewhere is intent on destroying your campaign and candidacy simply because you are a Republican. You’re going to save yourself a lot of time, money and embarassment, and you’ll do the Republican movement as a whole, state and/or national, a favor.

Now with these two incidents, and still reeling from Sutton and Brodkorb/Koch, I’m pretty sure the MN GOP is done for statewide offices this cycle.

  3. “…the Realtor used her access to houses that were on the market to “hold trysts” with him.”

If that’s a F A C T, why in the hell would you do that?

Alinsky tactics work. Period, end of story.

  4. …the Dems are going to spend boatloads of money…

A guy from NY and a guy from San Francisco wrote checks to defeat King Banaian that were individually larger than his legal maxed out campaign account.

  5. What about Lillehaug’s “pro bono” work for Gov. Dayton in examining the effects of the shutdown; the pro bono work for which his law firm then billed the state $70k.

  6. Ugh. And the guy’s name is “Randy”, too.

But that said, didn’t the Democrats tell us that what mattered was how a person did the job, not what they did in their personal life? And are we really to presume that Governor Messinger never has a date? The hypocrisy just floors me.

  7. The one thing I hope for with Republican sex ‘scandals’ is that there is or was some actual sex. There was a time when just the accusation of having once asked a staffer out on a date was enough to sink a Republican. Ted Kennedy was on his boat “changing his opinion regarding” offshore drilling with some broad that wasn’t his wife back in the day. But because Democrats are soulless lowlifes no one cared (and Mary Jo Kopechne couldn’t be reached for comment).
Let a Republican allegedly succumb to the pleasures of the flesh, even it’s just steamy texts provided by some disgruntled ex-husband and it’s front page news in Democrat Party Dominated Media Culture world whether the GOP’er got some or not. Here’s to hoping there was some actual sex if this guy gets sunk.
As for ‘doing it’ on some poor homeowners bed (or other furniture, countertop, desk) in the house they’re trying sell? Eww. Although I’m certain some I-Team is already blocking black light camera time for a sweeps week investigation of the secret world of real estate agents. I’d watch that.

  8. BB and Sef: As Kermit so masterfully said here a few years ago: If it weren’t for double standards, the left would have none.

So eloquent and prescient. I’ve been able to apply that phrase at least monthly for the last couple years.

  9. Bubba asks,

But that said, didn’t the Democrats tell us that what mattered was how a person did the job, not what they did in their personal life? And are we really to presume that Governor Messinger never has a date? The hypocrisy just floors me.

The difference — liberals use their genitalia primarily for recreation; conservatives are often using theirs for procreation. Thus, liberal genitalia use is holy and must be protected, while conservative genitalia use must be stopped at all costs, even if conservative genitalia are used for recreation. In fact, recreational use of conservative genitalia is scandalous by definition.

  10. Mr D., it’s liberal bizarro-world. The first amendment protects porno, but not political speech.

  11. Mr D., it’s liberal bizarro-world. The first amendment protects porno, but not political speech.

That’s because political speech, especially conservative political speech, is far more obscene than porno.

  12. Well said, Mr. D.

It’s also worth noting that if indeed genuine, the emails in question were probably illegally obtained. OK, so when it’s Richard Nixon, obtaining these records illegally is a big deal, but when it’s those on the left stealing private records, it’s no problem?

Again, what Kermit said and Bill C. repeats. If it weren’t for double standards….
