I’m sure the rules governing 911 operators are written to prevent any lawsuits from happening. And in this case, that’s a crying shame.
Joe:
If I were the lawyer for the 911 people I will panic about that rationale you just said. If the person gets killed because they put the gun down and surviving family hears the 911 tape (which usually makes the news) their first reaction will be to sue 911 because their advice which the victim obeyed helped cause their death.

Hard one–bad to say put it down, because innocents get hurt, bad to say “aim for center of mass” because at some point, the same thing will happen–and it won’t matter how many thousands of times it was the right decision to the estate of the deceased.
Perhaps a middle point would be to say that the officers, when they come, will be reciting Shakespeare or something? I’ve thought that officers ought to lead with authority instead of power for a long time now.
