Our President Misses The Concept Of “Democratic” Government

The Lightworker, on his penchant for trampling the separation of powers:

“The American people don’t want me just standing around twiddling my thumbs and waiting for Congress to get something done,” Obama said.

Well, yes, Mr. President; if Congress doesn’t pass legislation, those of us who understand the Constitution, especially the bit about “separation of powers”, most certainly do want you to go golfing, rather than usurp the role of Congress.

Head for the golf course, Mr. Lightworker.

Previous Presidents knew that if Congress was not working well, it was their responsibility to sit down with Congressional leaders and negotiate. But if Dear Leader does not wish to do that, I am very, very glad to see him out on the golf course instead of doing something by himself about the matter.

    Mitch:

Keep in mind as Bike points out that part of the separation of powers is for the two branches to sit down and work things out. The problem is on spending Obama wants his spending bills and doesn’t care about the House. On immigration Obama wants his immigration rules put into law and ignore the cries that it will destroy. I can go on.

The left blasts Ronald Reagan and George Bush, but at least they were willing especially when they didn’t have control of either chamber to sit down and work out bills for stuff they wanted passed.

Given that Obama has issued far FEWER executive orders than prior presidents, especially Republican prior presidents, he seems to be taking a very restrained approach to his executive powers.

But if Republicans REALLY believe otherwise – try to impeach him.

You can’t, you won’t, or if you try, you’ll lose badly in the 2014 election cycle.

Conservatives believe things which are factually false. The truth and reality are not your friends. Too bad for the radical fact-averse right.

Roughly 63% of Americans WANT things like immigration reform; they WANT what Obama is attempting to do. Therefore he IS doing what the people want, and it is conservatives who continue to obstruct that. Shame shame shame on the right!

“Roughly 63% of Americans WANT things like immigration reform; they WANT what Obama is attempting to do.”
    This is a lie.

I’m with Dog Gone on this one. I demand immigration reform. I want Congress to end H1-B visas, repeal the DREAM Act and reverse the 1965 Hart-Celler act. I want to go back to taking immigrants only when they benefit this nation, not merely to stuff the ballot boxes for Democrats. In fact, I think most Americans agree with me to the point that 63% statistic is LOW.

Oh, that’s not what Dog Gone meant? She meant taking an eraser to the map to rub out our southern border as hordes of ignorant, diseased handout-seekers invade our nation? Then I think most Americans would disagree to the point that 63% statistic is Far Too High.

I guess it all depends on how the poll questions were worded. Gee, I seem to recall Mitch making a big point of that every election cycle to explain why the polls Democrats cite don’t actually say what Democrats claim they say. Time to dust off those columns, Mitch.

Just like Mr. Doakes, I too would like to see immigration reform, but not for the reasons he lists above. Although it is true when Mr. Doakes says most Americans don’t want increased immigration. An even larger majority say they don’t want to deport the undocumented immigrants who are already here. And while most Americans have been saying for decades they don’t want more immigrants, they have resolutely and consistently refused to appropriate the resources or make the behavioral sacrifices that would be necessary in order to achieve that goal. Those hardworking illegal immigrants are employed by Americans who pretend to be unaware of their immigration status, or simply ignore it. In other words, Americans want fewer immigrants if it’s free, but if it’s going to cost billions of dollars, require them to prove their own citizenship status every time they get a job, or deport their own wonderful house cleaner or her kids, that’s a different story. The idea of “revealed preferences” has its limits, but I think it’s useful in this context.

It’s worth noting that fewer executive orders is not equivalent to less government intrusions, as thousands of nuns compelled to pay for other peoples’ contraceptives would tell you.

Not that “reality” means much to Doggone, but hey, I’ll give it a try.

What prevents Dog Gone from reading things she doesn’t want to believe? The quote is pretty clear, as are his actions.
