Horseshoes and Hand Grenades

After eight years of dubbing non-Klansman John Ashcroft “AshKKKroft”, comparing emphatic non-Nazis George Bush, Dick Cheney and Arnold Scharzenegger to Hitler, Himmler and Heydrich, and calling every economic downturn on a Republican’s watch “The Worst Since The Depression (TM)”, some lefties have found accuracy they can believe in.

“Comparing the Tea Parites to the Boston Tea Party is historically inaccurate”, I’ve heard more than a few lefties insist. “They were protesting against taxation without representation”.

Well, true, as far as it goes.  Of course, the “Tea Party” idiom has grown over the centuries to mean – in regular conversation – any kind of blow against arrogant, wastrel authority, but no matter.  The interesting bit for me is “what did the forefathers of these suddently-accurate lefties do when it was their turn to strike a blow for strict, pointillistic accuracy?”

So I dug through the archives.

May 8, 1945, New York (AP): Bob DeGrasse is having nothing to do with “VE Day”.

“We haven’t defeated Europe”, DeGrasse emphasizes, nervously twisting the ends of his stylized van dyk beard. “we defeated Germany, which in German is called Deutschland.  This observance should be called “VD Day” or, to be completely accurate, Sieg Trotz Deutschland, or “STD”, Day.

“There really is no honest alternative”.

January 31, 1999, Seattle (UPI) – As the world awaits the historic, and possibly fraught, switchover to the new millenium, many worry about possible terrorist strikes expanding on the confusion.

Phoebe Napolitino disagrees.

“The new Millennium”, she enounces carefully, “doesn’t begin until January 1, 2001”.  She perches her horn-rimmed glasses on her nose.  “By which I mean, the first of January, 2001, or New Years day of 2001”.

“Terrorists wont’ strike ’til then”.

June 9, 1933, Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine (Tass) – Dmitri Holodomoriuk has had it up to here with Soviet prosecutors.

“All these people being taking away for “right-wing activity”, Holodomoriuk muttered under his breath “are mostly just peasants who never had a political thought in their…”

Holodomoriuk’s sentence was intewrrupted by being grabbed and thrown into a Black Maria, never to be seen again.

Peoples’ Commissariat spokeswoman Zhanina Napolitanska has not returned comment.

History shows the importance of accuracy.

  1. Can you name a single American citizen who was ‘spied on’ as a result of this program, peev?
    Bet you can’t.

  2. Worst comparison. KMSP 9’s web site says the “anarchists” who were in St Paul last year are closer to the original tea party protestors. So a legitimete Twin Cities newsource thinks the little right white brownshirts who randomaly assualted people are the same as our founding fathers. It’s kind of sad.

  3. Peev, not only has Barry kept all of the unwarrented domestic spying programs that President Bush had, but Obama is expanding them to the internet. Better watch what you type or Obama may have you arrested.

  4. That’s so cute! Peev thinks there has been “ACTUAL police state activities” going on. I think it would be fun watching Peev with a shiny object.

  5. RickDFL, that is an unsubstantiated story told by an anonymous source about a class of people.
Also the word ‘tried’ is used.
Missed the target by a mile, no cupie doll for you.

  6. The NSA went after William Jefferson (D – LA)? I thought it was just the FBI and the DOJ.

  7. Can you name a single American citizen who was ’spied on’ as a result of this program, peev?

Of course he can’t. But then again that’s not his purpose. He skitters away like a little cockroach when his typically flawed premises and endless strawmen are eviscerated. Chances are he won’t return to this thread.

  8. How does that Kool-Aid taste, DickyDFL?

Peev musta skittered away to his Penisblog.

  9. Good Lord Terry, are you serious?

There was a report today about the DOJ cutting off the spying program for violating basic justice department rules and spying illegally on US citizens…

Terry, just because you SAY something didn’t happen, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

BTW – Brad – go blow a walrus..mkay? I don’t read (usually) the responses any longer, though I used to clearly, so your complaint is just so much Bullsh%t – but I don’t any longer (normally) because the replies are drivel, like Terry’s (and yours) commentary about ‘not being able to name.. blah blah’, as if the FBI and DOJ are going to put out in paper for everyone just who they tapped. Lord, you people TRULY are idiots.

No no, because the DOJ just cut back on the domestic spying, no, I’m sure, because they said it was improperly used ON US CITIZENS, but I’M 100% sure that means that NO US CITIZENS were spied on.

You might try reading.. no really.. something other than your hate blogs.

  11. I suppose it should say ‘cutting BACK’, rather than cutting off, so sorry for the typo – and the double post, there was latency on accepting the comment so I hit the button again as I thought it hadn’t worked.

Chuck, Obama has NOT, by any stretch, expanded the program from a holistic evaluation standpoint. Your comment is much like claiming that Obama kept the entire secret prison program, when in fact all he did was say they couldn’t be immediately disbanded, but would be disbanded within weeks.

  12. “I don’t read (usually) the responses any longer”

On SitD? So you spew your Liberal Fascism and then stick your fingers in your ears and chant la la la la as to not face reality. How convienient.

On Penisblog? There are no responses to read.

My Karma just ran over your Dogma

  13. You should have worried about your credibility before you lost it, peev.

Cutting off is a lot different than cutting back, hardly a typo.

Obama also said he would have our troops out of Iraq in 16 months, that was 16 months ago.

  14. RickDFL you site a questionable website’s article quoting an anonymous source about an anonymous congressman as proof.

Peev link to the report you cite as proof.

We also know that we can’t trust everything written in Newspapers, Blogs, put on TV, or written in a Government report. A great deal of stuff out there is written with an agenda in mind before any research is done.

Every info source deserves our skepticism.
