Best Voting System In America!

They warned me that if I voted Republican, there’d be a wave of claims of voter fraud when ethnic minorities tried to vote.

And they were right!

GOP operative Heather Linville put it well on Twitter:

@H_Linville: Oh…. OK. So now voter fraud exists, because a democrat might lose her seat. Got it! http://t.co/CwKIYpMm3j #stribpol

From the Strib:

The attorney for Phyllis Kahn says he got word Thursday night; there might be hundreds of people who are registering and voting using an address that’s not their home.
Absentee voting kicked-off Friday morning in a hotly contested democratic primary race for the state house between incumbent Phyllis Kahn and Mohamud Noor.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before (emphasis added):

Brian Rice, attorney for the Phyllis Kahn Volunteer Committee, claims there’s voter fraud.
“I think there is a coordinated effort to use this address to bring voters into the DFL primary election on August 12, that’s what I think is going on,” Rice said. “It’s wrong, it violates Minnesota Law, it’s a crime.”
According to voter registration records from the Secretary of State’s office and the DFL Voter Activation Network more than 140 people used 419 Cedar Avenue South in Minneapolis as their home address, when they registered to vote.
The address is for what’s called Cedar Mailbox Center. The building manager and mail center’s employees weren’t comfortable speaking on camera, but they said they were surprised by the allegations.

Of course, during the 2010 elections the Minnesota Majority noted scads of such irregularities – including nine people listing a laundromat as their “home” address.  The response?

“It can’t be!”

Why?

“We have the best election system in the country”.

Until it’s Phyllis Kahn being defrauded, of course.

TANGENT:  Remember when the only reason to claim voter fraud was racism?  Why do Rep. Kahn and the DFL hate Somalis, anyway?

  1. Yea, when I heard this report, I laughed so hard that I almost wet myself.

Anyone want to bet that Dog Breath stays silent on this?

Conversely, does anyone want to bet that she posts another fact challenged that voter fraud is still unproven and a myth?

  2. betting the over/under on DG? ok given her history, I’ll bet there’s 118 words in her comment.

  3. As far as “keeping black poeple from voting” thing…..well, 100% of the people Phyllis is trying to prevent voting are peoples of color. I am going to get some popcorn and set back and watch the show. I think about the Somalians……they don’t want to sit in the back of the bus.

  4. Playing the race card by disenfranchising non-white aliens sounds like a pretty desperate move. Even if she wins, I wonder if this is her last rodeo? Her fellow DFL’ers can’t be too pleased with her jumping sides on the voter ID issue.

Of course her to-be-expected flip back after the election will pass unnoticed in the press, but might this escapade make her too unreliable to the party to keep around? Either way, she may find herself looking for a nice ice floe on which to wait for the next passing polar bear. A fresh-faced, hardworking, young(er) immigrant with a growing voter base may hold a lot more appeal; besides, there’s only room in the democratic party for one Nancy Pelosi …

  5. There is one of two things occuring:

    A) There is election fraud going on and is being committed by Democrats, just as Republicans have feared for some time. If it happens here, it is happening elsewhere (like those people who “vouch” for Democrat voters in Minneapolis).

    B) There is something else occuring. I am not sure how the elections laws work…bascially using a PO box as your mailing address but you still live in the precent. But what if these are legitimate voters in that district? Then Phyillis is engaging in voter surpression of peoples of color.

  6. I don’t think Phyllis is really that concerned, she knows that all it will take for her to hold her seat is for some “misplaced” boxes of uncounted votes to suddenly be found at the last minute. That’s how they roll in Mpls don’t you know.

  7. Last night I told Nick Zerwas on Twitter that Voter Fraud in Minnesota isn’t a crime unless it affects someone the Star Tribune likes.

But the deliciousness of the schadenfraude from Phyllis Kahn just makes this worthwhile.
