Perhaps you can talk about the probable one lone rational conservative voice in Minnesota getting axed by KSTP yesterday (Dave Thompson). Dave was fair, civil, articulate and argued points and facts, rather than invective. He’ll be missed.
I could make comments about how conservative talk is dying, I could make a lot of snide remarks, and were it a liberal local host, doubtless that’s what we’d get from the ScaifeNet crowd – but honestly, Thompson deserved better.
The one comment however worth making is this, if Limbaugh and conservatism sell so well, and clearly they have a pretty stable base number if not base audience, then when every station kills off it’s local talent to play Limbaugh/Hannity 24X7, what will differentiate radio stations from each other. Talk about your ubiquitous propoganda engine, more than that, talk about your one-note mind-numbing, brain-washed blither blather.
Well, I suppose with the likes of Stephen Colbert and John Stewart, and now even Ed Schultz, having TV locked audiences up (and Limbaugh failing miserably at it), I guess it’s okay to have radio turn into nothing but over-stated idiocy (like “we’re pro-prosperity” – as if others oppose anything but prosperity on the backs of the average person).
Dave, you’re a good man, here’s hoping you land on your feet. Perhaps the media didn’t pass you by, perhaps you passed it, or maybe, perhaps it passed you going down.

Dave Thompson is a neo-con.

Dave’s a great guy, and he will be missed. This has, unfortunately, been coming a long time. However, he’s got other irons in the fire. You’ll be hearing more of him, I have a hunch, soon.
However, we won’t be talking about it, unless KSTP pays for the advertising time.
The “lone rational voice…” schtick is disregarded.
I could make comments about how conservative talk is dying, I could make a lot of snide remarks, and were it a liberal local host, doubtless that’s what we’d get from the ScaifeNet crowd – but honestly, Thompson deserved better.
Of course he did. But that’s radio.
And you could comment about how conservative talk is “dying”, but this would not be a symptom of it; KSTP abandoned conservative talk as a primary format three years ago. They are trying to be the new WCCO; they want to be a “good neighbor”, and be all things to all people. As I’ve written before,Ginny Morris (Stanley Hubbard’s granddaughter) ws never comfortable with the conservative talk label.
The one comment however worth making is this, if Limbaugh and conservatism sell so well, and clearly they have a pretty stable base number if not base audience,
Er, Pen? What is that supposed to mean? How is the “Base number” different from the “Base audience?”
then when every station kills off it’s local talent to play Limbaugh/Hannity 24X7, what will differentiate radio stations from each other.
Radio is a business. “Differentiation” can be a useful marketing tool (that’s why AM1280ThePatriot runs the NARN), but you have to be making money for differentiation to matter.
Talk about your ubiquitous propoganda engine, more than that, talk about your one-note mind-numbing, brain-washed blither blather.
Well, I’ll hand it to you; you’re talking about it.
Well, I suppose with the likes of Stephen Colbert and John Stewart, and now even Ed Schultz, having TV locked audiences up (and Limbaugh failing miserably at it),
There’s no denying Stewart and Colbert are big – now. This next three years could be interesting for them. They’re in a great place. It’s gotta be fun to be working on those shows!
Don’t get too excited about Schultz. He’s got the potential to be as big a splatter as Jesse Ventura was. Seen Rachel Maddow’s numbers lately?
Dave, you’re a good man, here’s hoping you land on your feet. Perhaps the media didn’t pass you by, perhaps you passed it, or maybe, perhaps it passed you going down.
Or maybe he passed it going right while KSTP was spiralling the drain.
(That last is actually the truth, for those who seek such things).

While Peevs claim that conservative talk radio’s death is obvious wishful thinking, I wonder what the “big announcemnet” Mitch’s AM 1280 has been pimping for Monday. Could it be that they’ve come to their senses and will return Laura Ingraham to her rightful place?
Given a choice between Chris Baker and Mike Gallgher, well, one is entertaining and the other one is named Mike.

When I look back at Dave Thompson’s bio on AM1500.com, he was asked to list some of his pet peeves
Here are two of them:
-People unwilling to acknowledge facts that undermine an opinion that they don’t want to relinquish
– Egotistical people.
Wow!! From that, one might suspect he’s encountered Penigma on a regular basis.

Don’t forget to mention the Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers goveling to the Saudi King on bended knee during his “We’re not worthy” World Tour.

I liked Thompson, but I liked him better at night when I could listen to him.
Kermit, if Mitch has taught me correctly, Laura Ingraham is on 100.3 because they could pay more for her show. Or did they ask for less? Either way, it’s a money thing and I’m guessing that the contract is longer than a few months.
Maybe 1280 hired Mischke! (Just kidding. He’s on City Pages web now.)

DiscoStoo,
I haven’t been able to listen to Dave in years, but I liked his night show.
But you’re getting the Ingraham stuff from somewhere else. 100.3 pays nothing for Ingraham. Either did AM1280. Indeed, I’m not aware of a single significant syndicated conservative, including Limbaugh, that charges stations for their show. The networks get their money from having network ad spots on network stations.
I do know why Ingraham moved, but I really can’t go into it. It had nothing to do with money in the sense of money from any station.
