Obama: Saving Our Image Around The World

By Mitch Berg

Barack Obama was going to fix America’s image to the rest of the planet.

After insulting European democracies, giving the Soviets Joe Biden.

Really, just saying the name is all you need. On a trip to Spain, Biden thanked Prime Minister Zapatero for his “help” in Iraq:

As everybody knows, the first decision Zapatero made after his unexpected win in 2004, right after the Madrid train terrorist attacks, was to abruptly and unilaterally pull out from Iraq.

Of course, as with all things in the current administration, there is a rational explanation:

So either Biden made a gaffe, or he was thanking Zapatero for angering Bush…

What do you think Robert Gibbs’ll say?

CORRECTION:  My bad.  Gibbs will never be asked.

    Temporary stopgap.

Dammit! Are you usinng some kind of super powered strikethrough tag that has the ability to run right through the closing tags supplied by commenters?

  4. Mitch Berg Says:

There are no strikethrough tags in this post or the comments.

What are you seeing, and in which browser?

  5. Kermit Says:

It’s comforting to know that Obama has this level of experience backing him up.

  6. nerdbert Says:

Obama views Biden as the best life insurance policy he could select.

I think Biden was a poor choice for a VP; however, I don’t see his comments as the gaffe that you are reading into them.

While Zapatero pulled out of Iraq after Spain was hit by terrorists, Spain HAD certainly been helpful in the coalition prior to that event. Continuing to expect support for the Bush way of doing things was untenable, given the scandals of Abu Graib and the world view of Gitmo.

Obama is seeking support from the NATO forces for Afghanistan; it makes perfect sense to me that to solicit that support, one first begins by thanking those countries in NATO, acknowledging their past support.

I’ve been wishing for a long time that this country would be fortunate enough to find a subtle mind or two in the area of diplomacy. A modern equivalent to Walsingham, Mazarin, von Metternich. None of those esteemed public servants could pass modern congressional approval for a cabinet level secretary position (something to think about when one is critical of the candidates proposed).

    Biden certainly is not it.

But I do see small signs, here and there, in the current administration that suggest there is one or more of those subtle, perhaps even gifted, minds at work behind the scenes. No idea of the face(s) or name to that mind, but there is definitely an intellect operating.

The things which amuse and delight me are seldom the same as those which appeal to the ‘masses’.

  8. Master of None Says:

Maybe Biden meant to thank Zapatero for his support of non-combat troops in AFGHANISTAN, but took his eyes off of the real war on terror and said Iraq instead.

“there is definitely an intellect operating”

Not somebody that asks “Who painted that?” when visiting the Lady of Guadalupe.

The name is either Snowball or Napolean.

I saw strikethrough text on almost everything this morning. Firefox. Several hours later in Outlook, no strikethrough.

  11. nerdbert Says:

Clown browses in Outlook? That explains a lot. Someone has to be pretty twisted to use that for browsing.

Firefox 3.0.8 looked fine all morning, as did IE 6&7, and Chrome.

Sorry, that would be that other brilliant Obama selection Mrs. Bill Clinton. I hope she bought a t-shirt.

  13. Chuck Says:

I see Mrs. Bill Clinton praised the racist neo-Nazi Margaret Sanger this weekend. I wonder if sHillary agrees with Sanger that we need to keep the Negros, Jews, immigrants, clowns, retards and other “morons” from reproducing.

  14. justplainangry Says:

    IE8 looks fine as well.

  15. Mr. D Says:

I have Firefox and there was a strikethrough tag somewhere earlier, but it was fixed about 20 minutes later and I haven’t had any trouble since then.

Doggone, were you thinking about Obama’s choice for Liberal Fascist Regulation Czar, Cass Sunstein supports outlawing sport hunting, giving animals the legal right to file lawsuits, and using government regulations to phase out meat consumption.?

  17. Dog Gone Says:

K-Rod, if you notice the names of the historic figures I mentioned, they were all individuals who were considered to have improved the standing of their respective countries in the area of international diplomacy, and to have advanced their countries in the context of security and finance domestically.

I haven’t seen any name or face to attach at this point to identify. I’m only minimally familiar with Sunstein by reputation, primarily in the context of advocating that courts should restrict their activities to adjudicating legal cases, not to using the judicial system for social activism – which I would expect to be supported by conservatives.

Certainly I oppose any attempts to outlaw hunting – with or without a gun, and I vigorously oppose the position of animal rights extremists, some of whom are among the worst domestic terrorists that we have in our midst.

  18. K-Rod Says:

Dog Gone, becareful of the Obama Oligarchy tactic of distraction. What they want you to know is not as important as to what they are distracting you from seeing. I can spot that Liberal Fascism a mile away.
