You Can Laugh If You Want To

You would not be the first.

A few weeks back, the Ventura Independence Party, which has throughout its history been a center-left party of people who just loooooove to tinker with the buttons and levers of government – which is the opposite of “libertarian” – endorsed a political newcomer who’s never held elective office, never run for election (that we’re aware of), but who came (along with her husband) from the Ron Paul clique.

Then, the Libertarian party candidate for governor – a party whose existence the regional media barely acknowledges – gets “arrested” while on his petition drive in a DFL-controlled city.

OK, that last might be a bit of a stretch.

But this?  Governor Messinger Dayton battling his “libertarian” streak?  Not so much:

Now as he sets off on his battle for re-election, Dayton says he finds himself increasingly frustrated at the layers of bureaucratic machinery that too can often smother good intentions.

“I vacillate every day from being a liberal to a libertarian,” the governor said in an interview before his overwhelming DFL endorsement for a second term. “Depending on what is happening, I sometimes go back and forth more than once a day.”

Read the whole thing (and to his credit, reporter Baird Helgeson does carry some of the dumbfounded reactions to the preposterous premise).

The DFL is trying to wedge “libertarians” away from the GOP.

Fearless predictions:  the campaign finance reports will show donations from liberals with deep pockets to Hannah Nicollet and to the Libertarian Party candidate.

  1. “Depending on what is happening, I sometimes go back and forth more than once a day.”

I’ve long suspected the docs have had trouble getting the dosage right on his meds.

  2. I was waiting for you to get to this. It is beyond bizarre; it’s actually beyond the Onion. My guess is that the moonbat crew is getting in all the mileage they can before Glen Taylor sends the whole kit & caboodle over to the Minnpost.

  3. Rumor has it that Glen will clean house, fortunately we will have work for these ‘journalists’ at the DoDE, just as long as they like pushing paper.

  4. And yet, Dayton’s numbers are pretty good, and there doesn’t appear to be a strong challenger from the right.
I think it is pretty reasonable that he gets frustrated with some aspects of government; the MN GOP is as obstructionist as the national GOP.
Don’t laugh too hard at a candidate who has never held public office; one of MN GOP primary challenges comes from a big-money guy, Scott Honour, who never got anywhere near holding party office prior to the 2014 campaign cycle. He’s weak on platform, but long on cash. The other three are pretty much party hacks, with lower name recognition and not particularly distinguished approval numbers from those who do know them.
But I suppose with a four way run up to the primary elections, you have to throw stones, when the MN GOP is still limping along from all the damage done by those fiscal conservatives, Tony Sutton, and the other damage done by Brodkorb and friends….
In comparison, the Dems look like they’ve done a much better job of government, while the MN GOP made a hash of everything they’ve touched.

  5. Doggy drops another steaming pile of misinformation and again, shows her outright stupidity and hypocrisy. C’mon Doggy! Tell me that Markie Dayton is not a “big money guy” that was short on any original thought? Idiot!

  6. Also DG, tell me what prestigious office Franken held before ‘becoming’ Senator.

  7. DG-“Is as obstructionist as the national GOP.” Among adults that would be termed “the GOP has policy differences with this administration.” Can’t debate your point, call the other side obstructionists. How original.

  8. “not particularly distinguished approval numbers from those who do know them.”

Yeah, wasn’t one of them proclaimed one of the 10 worst Senators in US history by Time magazine? And I think another one gave himself an “F” for his performance in his last political position.

Or maybe I have that mixed up….

  9. I see Dog Gone has given up on even pretending at the whole “reality based” thing.
