Accidents Will Happen

By Mitch Berg

Kermit from Anti-Strib reflects the rage so many of us have over the Kruger murder case in Waseca.

Michael Zabawa claimed to have shot three members of a Waseca family with a shotgun. By accident.

Kermit isn’t convinced:

Accidentally? You F’ing sub-human!!! Every shotgun I have ever seen has either an over-under or side by side barrel. You crack them to put more shells in, or you pump them to load more from the magazine.
The only accident was your mother carrying you to term you Piece. Of. Shit.

Lets all say his name again. Michael S. Zabawa.

Are there sub-humans living here, among us? Is it possible that we are not all equal in the sight of God and each other? Some people do not deserve to live. We will be keeping Michael in prison for twenty ot thirty years. Then he gets to go free.

Alec Kruger will still be dead. He was thirteen.

State pen inmates please note the name.

Thanks, Mitch. I have a 13 year old daughter as well as a 20 year old son. The senseless waste was bad enough, having this “person” claim it was all an accident just really frosted me.

Kermit, I understand your vehement outburst, but your grasp of the design of sporting arms is off by quite a bit. I have owned two shotguns in my life, high quality Brownings, and they were both auto-loaders with a single barrel. There are also pump and bolt actions with single barrels. But even with the auto-loaders, unless the shooter’s trigger finger goes into spasm, there can be only one “accidental” shot. I’m curious about what the shotgun involved really was, but the important consideration is that it is simply impossible to accidentally shoot several people with any shotgun. It would be as plausible for an axe murderer to claim that he accidentally hacked a family to death. As far as the rest of your comment goes, I second your thoughts enthusiastically.

I confess to limited knowledge of firearms.

    Pansy.

Any “semiautomatic” weapon – pistol, shotgun, rifle, artillery piece, whatever – will load another round after firing, even if by accident.

Then, there’s the little matter of aiming (on purpose or by accident) and putting enough pressure on the trigger to start the cycle again.

The guy’s story sort of beggars belief.

I feel so badly for the mother. I can’t imagine having to live after something like this.

Learning about things like this that try my social ideals. Its hard to be against the death penalty and support a rehabilitative rather than punitive justice system in light of this sort of monstrous act.

I’m trying to imagine her being my sister or him being my brother or friend. I can’t truly imagine the degree rage I would feel.

  7. Tracy E Says:

Why I support the Death Penalty. This guy should fry!

As for the gun story, I doubt that he had a high end Browning, Baretta or SKB that autoloads. I also doubt that such a gun would misfire when dropped, REPEATEDLY!

The guy is a lying scumbag.

Well, maybe. But in fact, everyone’s entitled to try to mount a defense in court.

As ludicrous as it may be.

How’d you like to be HIS attorney?

  9. Troy Says:

Taking for granted that “state pen inmates” even find Mr. Zabawa guilty, is it better to inflict on Mr. Zabawa whatever “state pen inmates” chose as his punishment?

I think if Mr. Zabawa is guilty and deserves worse than life imprisonment, we should try to find a way to give him what he deserves. Can that be done?

There was a woman at work yesterday who actually said, “Poor kid. He was probably just drunk and needed to get out of the ditch somehow and then the man had a gun and it all went wrong…”. I’ve been a drunk teen or young adult, so has my husband, so has my son and numerous other relatives and friends and we’ve been stuck. Not one has gone to a house and killed the people therein…..The whole accident story…it’s adding insult to injury. Does the a**hole think everyone is stupid? Oops…nevermind….there is that woman at work and probably plenty more where she comes from.

    Angryclown accused: Pansy.

I know, I know, another cherished stereotype is dashed to bits.

    Fry?

No, the guy should live the rest of his life with every footage that can be found of that family being happy together playing on an endless loop in his cell. Perhaps spliced in with any footage that may exist of him at the same age as the child. Just to really drive home what he’s lost and what he took.

If he can do anything in prison that can make income, almost all of it should go to the widow. I say almost because a small amount should be given back to him to encourage him to do the work. If she doesn’t want it (and I can see how she wouldn’t), it can be directed to the charity of her choice.

As for the pittance he gets, he can use it to marginally improve his prison experience. I don’t think he should get TV or cable or meat or any food other than the most basic and bland vegetarian fare. If he wants meat or spices or cheese or a fictional book, he can work his ass off to get it.

And, perhaps, the means to commit suicide can be made available to him. If he chooses it, then it is far more likely he chooses it with a more full awareness of what he’s done to deserve it.

    Death is easy.

And I can’t believe that anyone would excuse his behavior like Colleen’s coworker (I’m not denying someone did, it just makes me ill). I suppose I can feel a bit of sympathy for him – it must be awful to be the sort of person who could do what he did but it sounds like that woman was excusing him – almost pardoning him for what he did.

Forgiveness is and should be possible but for it to have much meaning, it must be proceeded with an acceptance of responsibility for the acts you are being forgiven for and repentance for having done it.

I remember when that madman slaughtered all those Amish kids a while back being astounded at how forgiving they were. I suspect that being able to do that will help their community heal faster and I have great respect for them for how they handled it. However, I wonder if the shooter were still alive and calling it an accident if it would have been harder for them to do as well.
