Huckperbole

The goverment is too powerful.  Individual freedom has been eroding for decades, and is frankly in a terrible state today.

And I do very sincerely believe we must watch out for slippery slopes – which most assuredly exist – when guarding the freedoms we have (and, ideally, bringing them back to where they belong).

And as Goldwater pointed out, “extremism in pursuit of liberty is no vice, and moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue”.

But let’s not get carried away, mkay?

  1. From the looks of it, Mr. Huckabee looks to be taking advantage of the liberty to eat as much as he wishes. Have another cheeseburger Mike!

  2. The media tells me that Huckabee is a serious contender for the nomination in 2016. Yet I have never met a conservative Huckabee-backer. How could this be?

  3. Emery – I wondered if that might happen eventually. He did lose like 160 pounds before his first presidential run. The odds against that lasting forever are pretty long

PM – You are absolutely correct. It hardly seems possible that the “Huckabee corollary to Bergs 11th law of inverse viability” was written eight years ago to cover not only this exact situation, but this exact candidate.

  4. Not to sound too libertarian, but a person’s health is mostly his or her own concern. Why should the government be involved, or concerned? First of all, people who die young save the health system a lot of money, so the cost of poor health habits are mostly a wash over the course of a lifetime. Secondly, and more importantly, after forcing people to participate in socialized medicine, to turn around and say that we’re going to use socialized medicine to justify taking away your freedom to live your life in an unhealthy way is downright Orwellian.
