Prioritization

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

Damn that Fernandez, he always says things so much better than I could.

This time, it’s about why Obama isn’t stopping Putin. Best paragraph:

“One of the most ironic things about the Obama presidency is that Yes We Can hasn’t even been replaced by No We Won’t. It has shriveled to No We Can’t.”

A President who doesn’t have the guts to take on the Sierra Club isn’t going to make an ex-KGB man quake in his boots. Or even a chinless ophthalmologist. If everybody knows you’re not willing to use the stick, there’s no point is speaking at all.

Well, to be fair, the citizens require so much supervision that it’s hard to spare much effort for overseas “enemies”.

  1. Mitch, there is a Somalian written op-ed in today’s St Paul paper. Very good. Says that Somalians are ready to get off the Democrat plantation and ready to think for themselves. Reading between the lines, and knowning what has happened over the past year in that area……I have to say that I under estimated them. Meaning they’ve had enough of left wing Democrats telling them what to think and how to vote. That they see through the Democrat lies (Republicans are rich white evil racists). They want to be independent thinkers. Not be told what to do when it comes to politics.

The gay marriage vote was a disaster for Republicans in Nov 2012. But subsequent doings by a very left wing Democrat party may have pushed the socially conservative Somalians more towards our side. I hope the Republican leadership sees this and is working with them.

  2. I wonder if Putin’s threats yesterday to cut Europe off from his natural gas wasn’t also a shot across our bow as well? I don’t know how much, if any, we use but such a shortage could really resonate if he was foolish enough to go through with the threat.

We’d better get busy checking our tire pressure and replacing the plugs and points in our cars to offset any petroleum product shortages.

  3. With all due respect, Joe..

If you’re driving a car that still has points, you best not be worried about MPG…because that car probably isn’t 🙂

  4. RE: your first paragraph. Suppose Putin goes full nutzoid, cuts off Euorpe’s natgas, disrupts the global marketplace and in 6 months we’re paying 3X as much to heat our homes as we did this year.

“We can’t all have our thermostats set at 72 degrees all year round.”

I honestly think it will take widespread death to shake this country from it’s stupor. As in millions.

  5. It’s worth noting that the only vital sector of Russia’s economy is energy. A good President would realize that there is a definite blinking game going on here, as Europe may be able to do without Russian gas and oil a lot longer than Russia can do without Euros.
