You’ve Been Warned
By Mitch Berg
A few weeks ago – while some “conservative” Americans were phumphering about over idiotic ephemera like Obama’s birth certificate – I predicted that the turmoil in Northern Mexico would lead the Obama Adminstration to drive head-first back into gun control, for the Mexican children.
As Kevin Ecker notes at True North and Eckernet, I was right – not that it’s hard to be right when trying to plumb the depths of Democrat depravity on civil liberties issues.
Ecker:
Attorney General Eric Holder has announced that one of those “common sense” measures on gun-control is that they’d like to bring back the Assault Weapons Ban and goes on to explain why. If the issue weren’t so serious, the statement would be hilarious. His rationale for such a move is a bold combination of self-defeating rhetoric, outright falsehoods and just plain paranoia.Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.
So because of the ineptitude of the Mexican “government” and our inability to build something as complex as a fence, American citizens are being asked to give up some of their rights? At what point was our national sovereignty officially handed over to Mexico? I didn’t realize their needs superceded my rights. Was that part of Hope™ and Change™?
No, Kevin.
It’s a part of being good “citizens of the world”.
I hope all of you who stayed home because McCain was mushy on immigration are happy; not only are we not building fences, we’re importing Mexican laws and government attitudes into the US.

Not just the single-issue immigration voters but also the single-issue RTKBA voters who couldn’t get past McCain’s support an instant background check at gun shows. The problem with single-issue voters is that they almost invariably adopt an “all or nothing” attitude and they usually wind up with the latter.

I predict that the next attack will involve restricting the importation of certain ammo.
7.62X39? Uh uh…7.62×51? Nope….223? Fagetaboutit….308? Not today.
.50 cal? What is your address, sir?
“If” I had a need for such calibers, I’d be laying in a goodly supply.

Oh I’m stocking up, alright.
I use my .50 cal to shoot them San Francisco salt marsh mice.

As many have noted, Obama and Holder are the best gun salesman the country has had, ever. If they can turn “Do it for the Mexicans” into a flurry of firearms purchases, imagine what they could do for the rest of the American economy if they set their minds to it.

Well, there’s a Kos konspiracy theory waiting to happen, sometime when PBO’s popularity drops:
“Obama’s a Rovian plant! Everything he attacks – conservative talk, guns, the free market – becomes popular!”

So Mexico sends us poor people and takes our guns. What about that could a liberal find objectionable?

Swiftee,
I don’t disagree.
Although if we as a nation have to import 7.62×51 (aka .308), 5.56×45 (aka .223) or 12.7×99 (aka .50BMG), we might as well start eating Mexican apple pie, watching Chinese baseball, and adopt Costa Rican foster mothers. Those are OUR calibers, dagnabbit.
If we have to import 11.43×23 (aka .45ACP) it’ll be all over.

The .45 copper jackets I keep around the house were made in Russia.

In anticipation of all of this I have already bought my AR-15. Now I just have to stock up on ammo.

Jshandorf-Good Luck on that. The ammo I mean. Big Green will not give out date when product will be available, Big Red is working around the clock except for one shift on Sunday’s. The folks in Anoka are starting to get hunting loads and shotshell back in stock, slugs and buckshot still lag. But forget about handgun ammo being anything but hand to mouth for most of the rest of the year.
Terry, besure to clean your gun well, the steel case Russain stuff tends to be dirty, if it’s brass then it’s not Russian but Prtizi Partizan, which is eastern Europe. You might want to try MagTech, they import a copper solid from Brazil that is nice and usually is available.
I have been getting in Russian .223 and 7.62X39 on a regular basis from three or four sources, but demand is seriously outsripping what is coming in.

Look out for new EPA rules on lead used in ammunition. Also look for an Illinios like FOID card requirement with serialized ammo. Not an outright ban but anyway to drive the price of ammo up.
