Train In Vain

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

The Green Line of the Blight Rail will open on June 14.

Okay, so what’s the betting on it actually starting that day, versus the usual government delays?  Should SITD have a pool?

Good question.

I say it’s like the opening of the Ventura Trolley; there’ll be a train running down the track on June 14.  It’ll be loaded with dignitaries and Met Council back-slappers.  That trip will be followed by days or weeks of “testing” and “training” time built into the schedule to allow all the slop time they need.

Like the private sector – only more.

  1. They might be anticipating a lot of bad press because I saw a light rail car on the track in front of the Revenue building last week. I imagined it was there for testing, but I don’t know. Knowing how many times they dug up Robert St (not to mention University) and put it back together, I wonder if the per-ride subsidy value will climb …

  2. I think an interesting bet might be which will take a life first, green line or pistol permit holder. I believe the smart money will favor the green line.

  3. So have they fixed the problem with the power lines icing up every time it “precipitates” on a sufficiently cold day? I was listening to WCCO one morning, and one of the delightful plans they’ve made for the SW spur is to put it in a ditch. Because, as we all know, it’s not like snow collects in ditches here in Minnesota, making things impassible, or anything like that. And to be sure, it could never become an unofficial river during the rainy season.

It is as if these guys have never heard of an FMEA, and we’re trusting them with billions .. Good grief!
