Let Them Eat Sweaters

Turn down your themostat, says Obama…

…as he turns the Oval Office into a greenhouse:

The capital flew into a bit of a tizzy when, on his first full day in the White House, President Obama was photographed in the Oval Office without his suit jacket. There was, however, a logical explanation: Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat.

In a visit to the Capitol on Tuesday, Mr. Obama surprised his former Senate colleagues by stopping to talk to reporters.

“He’s from Hawaii, O.K.?” said Mr. Obama’s senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss. “He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.”

Hawaii?

So that whole Chicago thing was just a Bobby-Ewing-stepping-out-of-the-shower hallucination?

  1. Are we sure there isn’t an algoracle in that picture in the corner somewhere? That lying windbag sure puts out a lot of hot air!

  2. Somehow this isn’t the least surprising. And yeah…he’s “from Hawaii”. How long has it been since he lived there? We have many SE Asian immigrants in our community and they have managed to acclimate to a climate that blows DC & Chicago out of the water. -42 anyone? And there they are out on Lake of the Woods ice-fishing and enjoying life! I think the climate of their native homelands beats Hawaii out heat-wise.

The most galling aspect of this whole thing is his “do as I say-not as I do” attitude about “sacrifice” to save energy. But, again no surprise. Elites are different than you and I.

Obarter, anyone? The only difference is a cardigan.

  4. Members of the Politboro are afforded some extra priviledges. It’s necessary because of the immense impoertance of their tasks.

For all that they do for the we in the proletariat, it the least we can do.

  5. I’d like to know what the actual thermostat setting is in the white house, particularly in the oval office.

In any case, if a number of people are calling it warm, it is a fair guess that it is on the higher end than the lower.

I think this is an absolutely fair criticism of Obama; he should be setting a better example. It will be interesting to see what he does to make the white house more ‘green’, in terms of weatherizing, etc. But in the meantime he ought to be sporting earmuffs and a heavy sweater (or two) than in his shirtsleeves, with the people around him perspiring.
