Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

The number of Americans filing for unemployment dropped.  The headline makes this sound good but it’s actually not.

Look at it this way: suppose there are 100 people in the economy and 7 get laid off.  That’s an unemployment rate of 7%.

Now there are 93 people working.  If 7% get laid off again, that’s 6 more people out of work.  True – fewer people are getting laid off (only 6 instead of 7) but that’s because there are fewer people working to GET laid off.  The measure of a healthy economy is not how many people are out of work, it’s how many people who want to work, can find work.

The Labor Force Participation Rate has dropped so low that fewer than 63 people are working out of every 100 living in America.  The other 38 are out of work, out of unemployment benefits and have quit looking for work.  That’s the lowest percentage of working Americans since Jimmy Carter was in office.  That’s the tax base we’re expecting to pay for Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, Obama-care, student financial aid, foreign aid, farm aid, light rail and oh, yes, fighting wars in a dozen countries.

Joe Doakes

It is not necessary for people to return to work. It is necessary that the media make people think people are returning to work.

Thus racism.

  1. Of course, not counting veterans with service related injuries, disability claims are up, accounting for more than 16% of the work force. This is never factored in, yet I would venture to guess that a significant number of these people decided that it was more lucrative to live off of the government than go back to work.

  2. And Obama will soon make another speech talking about building the economy from the bottom up and the middle out. Do even his supporters believe his bullshit anymore?

  3. Yea, the hand picked supporters that he always has standing behind him when he lies to us, are lucky that they don’t have to see his lips move!

  4. Powhatan, I’m thinking that–like our friend Doggone and others–they may be in such an echo chamber that they do not even listen to contrary evidence. Examples from my own family:

Around 2000, I had the pleasure of informing my mother that the national debt was still increasing despite the trumpeted “surpluses”. Government accounting (as opposed to honest accounting) of course.

A few years later, I had the displeasure of having my brother refuse to even consider the fact (Stanley and Danko, “The Millionaire Next Door”) that the rich generally do not inherit their wealth. He wouldn’t even consider it for the sake of argument.

(remember that whenever someone tells you how smart Ivy League grads are….can’t even get through the most basic part of formulating a syllogism unless it agrees with their preconceived notions….good luck doing logic with that thought process!)

And so I submit to you that many on the left are so invested in their ideology that they cannot even consider contrary evidence. For example, DogGone.

The way that the left wins is by inciting hatred. That’s all that they’ve got.
