I think Pelosi believes that if the government controls the people more, and the people control the government less, the people will have more liberty.
I know, it sounds crazy when you put it that way, but there it is.

Let me try another paraphrase-
“The more of your freedom you give to the government, the more liberty you will have.”
No, that doesn’t make sense either. I’ll keep trying! I vow to endeavor to persevere!
