Watching The Defectives

I feel like smacking an MSNBC host like a piñata.  A Piñata full of crap.

In this case, it’s MSNBC contrib Joy Reid, who said on the air:

“There’s this sort of neo-Confederate thread that runs through this pro-gun movement and NRA movement,” she said this afternoon while discussing the recall elections for Democratic state lawmakers in Colorado that were spurred by their support for gun-control legislation.

Confederate Soldiers! This photo (courtest of the Joyce Foundation-supported MinnPost – is what the Big Left thinks you, the law-abiding gun owner, are. Hey, it was in the MinnPost – and they’re Real, Badge-Carrying Journalists!

Reid also argued that gun-rights advocates and the National Rifle Association are hypocrites because they oppose the new restrictions on gun rights signed into law by Colorado governor John Hickenlooper while advocating for states’ rights and the Tenth Amendment.

Perhaps someone could explain to the ingenious Ms. Reid that it was Coloradans that are voting on the pushback against Hickenlooper are, well, from Colorado.  The NRA is a private organization; the Tenth Amendment doesn’t regulate its activities.

But it’s great to see an MSNBC drone invoke the Tenth Amendment!

“The NRA will come in, helicopter in and undo [those laws],” she said.

If the NRA had the power to make and unmake the law, this might be a better nation.

But it’s not actually the case.

  1. I realize she’s on PMSNBC so the ordinary rules of logic don’t apply, but it strikes me as odd that people who assert that emanations from a penumbra of unenumerated rights not listed in the Constitution over-ride state law in certain areas, but blatant infringement of specifically listed Constitutional rights is perfectly acceptable exercise of state power.

It’s as if they twist the argument to fit the pre-determined Politically Correct conclusion with no thought of consistency or even underlying principle.

  2. By using the word “confederate,” Ms Reid is able to kill two birds with one stone; utilize the word as code for racist, as well as relate it to the issue of secession.

While she’d do well with that in a game of Yahtzee, I doubt if her handful of viewers even made the “secession” connection with the “c” word.

So while the NRA allegedly helecopters in to influence the opinions of Coloradoans, MSNBC is able to beat them to the punch while traveling on the same airwaves electronically. Score them extra points for better use of technology.

  3. We know that journalism is far from the product of the mainstream media these days. Yet, I am beginning to think that MSNBC (and CNN for that matter) goes out of it’s way to hire “journalists” from the pool of individuals that failed miserably at faking “journalism”.

  4. Fox has on many more on-air liberals than MSNBC has on-air conservatives.
I believe that the reason for this is that Fox appeals to viewers who want to see conservatives address and counter liberal ideas and arguments,. while MSNBC appeals to viewers who want to see liberal ideas presented as the only valid ideas.
I’m astonished at the difference between the way that Fox’s panel show regulars treats Democrat Bob Beckel, and the way that Rhodes scholar Rachel Maddow treats her conservative guests.

  5. Colorado’s recall is important, and tricky. In order to have the desired effect, those anti-American Democrat legislators not only must be removed from office, they must be removed smartly.

  7. Powhatan Mingo; I have observed the same thing over the years. The fact that Fox routinely allows liberats to rant, they are always respectful of the guest and don’t spring a hidden agenda or batch of loaded questions on them. If you recall, Sean Hannity’s original show was called Hannity and Colmes, with uber liberat Alan Colmes as his co-host. I have also watched The Five several times over the years that it has been on and have observed the same thing. I believe that however misguided his political views are, I believe that Bob Beckel is basically a good person.

  8. “MSNBC appeals to viewers who want to see liberal ideas presented as the only valid ideas.”

This is true of every, single lefty media. Leftist Blogs, radio, TV, newspapers all censor dissenting opinions. I take it as a tacit admission that they are incapable of defending their papspew in debate.
