Does This Mean His House Here is For Sale?

Franken Loses Crucial Ruling in Minnesota Recount

Minnesota’s Canvassing Board voted unanimously to reject Franken’s request to include thousands of absentee ballots that are not included in the recount in the Minnesota senate race between the Democratic challenger and Republican incumbent Norm Coleman.

Which means it’s all but over for Al Franken’s bid for Norm Coleman’s Senate Seat as the recount is so far and will likely continue to substantiate Coleman’s narrow victory.

  1. Nah. There’s a legitimate issue — not counted ballots that were not DQed for any of the four legit reasons — and it doesn’t have to be addressed at the canvassing board. The board members — judges all — were sure that they must be counted; they just refused to (properly) pretend that they had the authority to order them counted, as they don’t.

I’m distant from MN and so I may be unaware of some of the subtleties of the recount — but isn’t their some provision of the law says that only votes cast on election day are to be tallied in the recount?
If so who would have the authority to make the disputed absentee ballots part of the official count? If it requires a change in the law these things are typically done in such a way that the current dispute will not be affected.

  3. Terry:

The dispute is that they should have been counted in the ORIGINAL count and that issue was brought to the canvassing board at their earlier meeting.

No one knows what these ballots hold. But we DO know that an on site election judge made an arbitrary decision that deserves to be reviewed by a different set of eyes. The Board made it clear they were NOT ruling on the merits, but on their jurisdiction in the case.

If a judge rules they, or a portion of them, should have been counted on Election Day, then they get counted. This issue is separate from the recount.

  4. Flush, you don’t know crap.

It appears now that team Porn-O-Rama first said they were not going to challenge the boards decision, before they said they would.

A close encounter with integrity for the party of Scrubs…looks like they escaped with their scummyness intact though.

  5. As to the question of whether his house is for sale the answer is yes. Unfortunately, the valuation has fallen. Only his personal friendship with Christopher Dodd and Barney Frank will allow him to walk away without significant loss. Like most things he touches, he’ll let the taxpayer pick up the tab.

  6. flash, you don’t know that election judges made “arbitrary decision” (s) on any of these ballots. We have seen ballots dismissed for a number of legitimate reasons. With absentees you also have the posibility that the voter decided to show up on election day as well.

  7. Absentee ballots? – Are these people required to provide PROOF of residency, or can they just send one in along with a boxtop and be qualified? I’m being flippant, but I’m curious.

  8. The Canvassing Board did the right thing when voting to reject Franken’s request to include thousands of absentee ballots. We certainly don’t need anymore liberal illuminatis like porn king Franken in government. How shameful and embarrassing it will be if he wins this election.
