I’m less surprised by the fact that James Gandolfini has passed away…
…than by the fact that he was only 51.
He’d seemed “51” for most of the last 20 years.
Sigh.

I’m more surprised that neither MBerg or Mr. Doakes has mentioned the passing of a Vince Flynn from St. Paul.
Yeah, you’re right Doug Grow / alter ego “Emery”. North Dakotan (eg: Not One of Us) MBerg simply isn’t provincial enough.
Is MinnPost doing a retrospective on Flynn? Or maybe one of my favorite things in Twin Cities media… a retrospective on how WE are effected by the deaths of Flynn; or Gandolfini; or Slim Whitman, complete with you and Eric Black interviewing Twin Citians on how they feel about these deaths. Mmm, Good Question.
Back on topic… Yes I was surprised as well. Also pleasantly surprised to learn that Mr Gandolfini was very good person in his personal life. That’s the problem with type casting I suppose. RIP.
Emery: I believe the line usually goes “I can’t help but note you are conspicuously and suspiciously silent”.
Maybe more tomorrow. Maybe Monday. Dunno.
That’s why you’re the editor. ;^)
Yes, what are you hiding, Berg?
Seflores
Whew. I thought I was long-winded, but you could reduce that to 1/4 of the words, and it would be more comprehensible as well. You might also conclude with one sentence summarizing whatever point it is you’re trying to make, which wasn’t at all clear to me.
Subject, verb, object. In that order, please. Anything else is superfluous.
Shorter Seflores: Blow it out your butt, Doug.
Ditto Mr D. (Need I say more?)
I think that internet communications would be improved if we English speakers reverted back to using the second person pronouns ‘thou’ (subjective) and ‘thee’ (objective).
I’ve read that the use of of the third person ‘you’ in place of thee and thou is a relic of 17th century British class distinctions. An aristocrat would refer to another aristocrat using ‘thee’ or ‘thou’, but would refer to a person of lower status as ‘you’ in order to erase their individuality.
When in fear of using the wrong word, use the word with the Anglo-Saxon root. It’s the manly thing to do.
As Tony Soprano often said: “forgettaboutit”.
I always peceived Mr Gandolfini as roughly middle-aged, even from one of his earlier movies, and one of one of my favorites of his roles…the hit man in True Romance.
What dismays me a only slightly less than his death at all too young an age is that given my percection of his age he was, in fact, younger than me by nearly a month.
To see a different side of Gandolfini’s acting watch the movie 8mm, very creepy to say the least.
