Small Tents For We, But Not For Ye

Remember what happens every time the conservative mainstream GOP mixes it up with the “moderates” that have descended into near irrelevance among everyone but the Strib Editorial Board?

How the media establishment chides the GOP to be more open?  Bigger-tented?  More tolerant of dissent?

Well, at the moment, either does at least part of the mainstream media.

Nick Coleman – who used to be one of those Strib people who audibly pined for the good ol’ days when his Dad was in the Legislature and the GOP was a huge tent covering everyone from moderate DFL suckups to really moderate DFL suckups – is now wanting to start checking ideological IDs. He was reporting from the Tatooine cantina that was the Minneapolis DFL City Convention over the weekend:

Minneapolis has a choice;  five DFL candidates, ranging from crazy to pants-crappingly unhinged…

…and Cam Winton, the DFLer-turned-GOPer running on the “get some value for all those freaking taxes we pay” platform.

If there was ever a time to shock the world, this is it; Cam could use a buck or two, and even some volunteers, if you’re so inclined.

  1. Minneapolis and St Paul are one party towns. Kind of like the USSR. The DFL likes to have a gatekeeper that allows only acceptable (to them) candidates to run (who was that lady in St Paul….she dead last year).
Both cities are full of crazies. When Phyllis Kahn and Fat Dave Thune are considered mainstream, that tells you have many wackknobs there are there.
Wackknobs who like power and control.
Imgaine the circus the nominating conventions must be.

  2. The moonbat tent is having trouble absorbing legal immigrants from Somalia, especially. Seems that they’ve gotten a bit uppity since they got their citizenship papers.

They’d be better appreciated if they were being off-loaded directly from the bilge tanks of tramp steamers in Duluth to the convention floor voting booth, probably.

  3. Swiftee, the DFL is good at getting minorities and/or recent immigrants to vote Democrat. But, with Minneapolis and St Paul becoming white-minority, I wonder how that will change the power structure. So say 40% of Mpls-St Paul whites vote non-Democrat. That means 60% of whites are DFL, in a city (2 cities) that is probably, what?….40% white. After being told they are victims that deserve stuff, I suspect the others are ready for some power.

  4. Someone forgot to remind these “new” DFL-ers that they basically work for the party, they’re not actually members of the party.

  5. The tent analogy may not be right for the DFL. I’d liken the DFL to a game of poker where one hand beats another like when a flush beats a straight. Or in this case where an Immigrant Somali Muslim Male Person of Color trumps a 12 Year Incumbent Caucasian Gay Male for the DFL Endorsement.

If only Lilligren was Handicapped er, uh, Handicapable! or had been a Somali Muslim Person of Color Lesbian/Transgender/Questioning he’d have trumped Warsame.

  6. Chuck-
Just wait 30 years or so until the young, poor, and hispanic are paying for the retirement and healthcare of aging, well-off, non-economically-productive whites. What a wonderful future our political class has planned for us!

  7. In other news; the communist controlled Minneapolis city council, is debating more wasteful spending on choo choo trains, aka street cars. I mean, hell, if Memphis has them, we need them, too, don’t we? Idiots!
