DFL Lawyer: “Yes, Roosh – They Are Dumb And Happy!”

A gaffe is when a politician slips up and tells the truth.

I guess it also applies to politicians’ lawyers:

“People who voted for Coleman are more likely to have taken the SAT in their lifetime,” [Bill Star, Franken lawyer] said. “They’ve filled in circles. Franken voters are probably not college-educated. They’re new voters and immigrants. They’ve been brought in by groups like ACORN, from the inner cities. They’re more likely to make mistakes. I’ve bounced this off of minority people, and they agree with me.”

No word as to whether they’re bitter and clingy, and over or to what.

It reminds me of this line from Jennifer Vogel’s classic of hYpStR condescenscion:

A favorite scene from the election took place at my local polling place, in a historically Polish neighborhood. An African woman wearing bright robes stood in a gray plastic voting booth with her ballot. She spoke only a little English, so she asked for assistance. A poll volunteer approached and embarked upon a lengthy explanation. The African woman interrupted. “Kerry,” she said loudly. “I want Kerry.” That was that.

Liberal GOTV in action; give the cattle a name to memorize and herd ’em into the polls.

I’m so proud to be an American today.

  1. That is awesome. Evidently the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and other tests where one “fills in the dots” are not administered to liberal children, either? Are we saying, then, that those who voted for Franken are grade school dropouts, stuck perpetually in kindergarten?

It fits in a way, but I’m not quite buying it…..

  2. DFLer’s uninformed? Impossible. They get their news from MPR, from MTV, from the headlines in the check-out lanes. Please don’t tell me liberals vote in a knee-jerk fashion. They value their votes. Look how closely they value each democrat vote in this re-count!

The next thing you’ll be telling me is public education doesn’t need a shot in the arm (sarcasm added at no additional charge).

  3. Actually many DFL voters get their news from the Daly show. And yes, they think it is a real news program.

Kind of like the lady ranting on KFAI a few months back. Turned out she saw a headline on The Onion and thought it was a real newspaper.

  4. I’m confused.
Left-leaners keep saying (indeed, shouting) that Republicans and conservatives are stupid (and fat, and ugly, and hateful, and racist, and narrowminded… just listen to half of the shit Peev says).

Now, lawyers for a particularily aggressive, arrogant, vilotile, and violent left-leaner (which is saying something) now says that folks on the right (at least those who vote for Sen. Coleman) are smart.

    Hmmm.

  5. I echo what Badda says, Neo-kooks CLAIM that Lefties think righties are stupid, and scream “Elitism” and “Snob” at every turn (including here at Scared of the Dark).

And Righties paternalistically and smugly claim Lefties would join the ‘movement’ if they only knew better – pot-meet-kettle. Now, a lawyer (for God’s sakes!) says lefties are dumb, and what do you do?

    Say – SEE! It’s TRUE!!!!

Smug, hypocritical, blather (I’d have used periods – but we all know how much Mitch eschews that ;)).

  6. BTW Badda, just to be clear – and thanks for putting words in my mouth btw.

I don’t claim righties are stupid, that would imply an incapacity to understand. Such a suggestion is STUPID on it’s face. People have genetic/intellectual capacity defined LONG before they become politically aware.

I do think they operate with self-interest as an overriding rule, and wilfully ignore facts. Perhaps that makes it ignorance, but if so, it’s wilful ignorance to be sure.

  7. And Badda,

The lawyer didn’t say folks on the right are smart, he said they were more educated.. you know, elitist, ivory tower types and all. They weren’t a. elderly (as much as Franken voters) and WERE more likely to be immigrants. I’m sure that’s not accurate, given how friendly righties are to feriners and all.

  8. CLAIM that Lefties think righties are stupid

No, in fact it’s part of the left’s self-contratulatory canon. Remember when the Huffpo, Kos and the rest called, tongue-in-cheek (?) for the US to split into the “US of Canada” and “Jesusland?” Notice how “redstater” has become a pejorative on some prime-time TV aimed at blues?

Righties paternalistically and smugly claim Lefties would join the ‘movement’ if they only knew better

No, not really, we don’t. We only thing the smart ones will.

As we’ve seen, there aren’t as many of them as the left thinks.

I don’t claim righties are stupid

    Right…

I do think they operate with self-interest as an overriding rule, and wilfully ignore facts.

Ah. So they’re not “stupid” as a group, merely liars?

    Well, that’s much better.

    (Whew).

The lawyer didn’t say folks on the right are smart, he said they were more educated.. you know, elitist, ivory tower types and all.

No, he said have better literacy and basic understanding of things; no “grade level” was stated or implied.

By my observations, he’s right on.

  9. “I do think they operate with self-interest as an overriding rule.”

Like the rule of law? Like having a healthy self-interest? Like believing in free-market principles? Like a belief that smaller equals better government? Like providing for the common defense? Like the right to private property?

Those kind of loathesome, bothersome, un-American self interests? Jeez, this line of logic (?) is where too many episodes of “The View” will ultimately lead.

  10. Democrats are proud to be known as the party of the ‘have-nots’. The ‘have-nots’ are predominantly the poor and less-educated. Yet the left insists that Republicans aren’t as educated and well informed as Democrats are.
    WTF?
Even Penigma’s ‘Evil, not stoopid’ theory runs into this type of paradox. If the votes of conservatives are driven by immoral motives and ‘willfull ignorance of facts” why do the dems favor the restoration of voting rights to felons?

  11. I think the problem is that leftists like Penigma & AC are too obtuse to see that giving a government so much control over their lives & others is the evil to fear.

They are easily fooled by the idea that the government is only trying to help people who can’t help themselves.

They just can’t see the woods for the trees.

  12. Actually, Mr. Shirt, I think that Peev & clown believe that the People will be exploited by the evil corporations who provide them with food & shelter unless something is done to stop them.
Government has the power to stop these evil corporations from exploiting the People in return for food & shelter. Unfortunately government can’t provide food & shelter in their place.
    Welcome to Animal Farm.

  13. They are easily fooled by the idea that the government is only trying to help people who can’t help themselves.

Being forced to work in the Federal government for a year would cure that form of insanity. *shudder* I’ve done my time and it opened my eyes. I never thought any bureaucracy could be that messed up. I was wrong. It made IBM of the late 80s and early 90s look like a startup.
