It’s That Time Of Year Again

By Mitch Berg

The time of year for senseless-but-fun studies trying to associate peoples’ traits, behaviors and peccadilloes to their politics.

Today?  What your choice of beer says about yoru politics:

Smithwick’s is never mentioned. What are they afraid of?

(And who am I kidding?  It’s always that time of year.  Although I’m sure it’s time for a “study” “proving” that liberals are smarter, any ol’ time here).

Well, back in May, I seem to recall reading about a study that said that liberal men were wimps and liberal women were dependent, as well as weak willed. I mean, every time I see a hyphenated last name, I say to myself; there’s an emasculated man whose wife needed to “retain her own identity” so she needed to keep her last name. Along that line, I happened to catch a piece that WDFL was doing about that practice and the smokin’ hot Natalie Kane, now Nyhus, proudly stated that she took her husband’s last name. Of course, a friend of mine that is involved in the local media scene says that both she and her husband seem to hold conservative views. Matter of fact, he also told me that Frankie V is conservative, too. If true, I offer kudos to them, because it must be tough to be part of a left wing, propaganda spewing station.

Of more concern is what that NSA says about your politics.

Explained! I now understand why Democrats don’t send me any literature or contact me via social media. Their datamining operation, with help from the NSA, IRS, EPA, my debit card provider and the barcode on the side of my recycling bin, determined that I won’t vote for Democrats because of my purchase of a case of Sam Adams Lager.

Hell, if I could buy it here, on occasion, I would drink Lone Star, The National Beer of Texas aka Texas’ version of Old Milwaukee! It does work well with spicy barbeque though!

Terry, NZ is a heck of a lot closer to HI than to continental US. Ubiquitous in HI as Bud is in the US, but not the same according to my taste buds. I like Steiny and would not put in the same taste category as Bud.

No wonder I always liked Blue more than Canadian! That expalins a lot!

Is it possible that Olde English “800” malt liquor (40 oz.) and Grain Belt Premium (long neck) are outliers at opposite ends of the spectrum?

My sister in law is from the Solomon Islands. In her pidgin, the word for beer is ‘blue-tin’.

I’m not sure why you would express concern over this sort of thing. After all, it is only happening because of the sweeping powers that Congress put in the Patriot Act. Until the level of fear recedes, this isn’t likely to change. And there is a large industry devoted to stoking the level of panic.
