Collin-oscopy

Rumors from some reliable-enough sources indicate 400-term DFL 7th District Representive Collin Peterson may retire by the end of this term.

This would give the GOP an opportunity for a big flip in a part of the state that, like the Dakotas, has sent farm-pork-mongering DFLers to Washington for decades, but otherwise is solidly red.  The 7th – which is, politically, a suburb of North Dakota anyway – would very likely elect a Republican, if a good one shows up and has a functional party behind ’em.

So, 7th CD readers (and, let’s be honest, everyone else); who do you see running for the House in CD7 in 2014?

  1. Dave Thompson grew up in East Grand Forks, MN. He’s got the conservative credentials and the eloquence to match (even if he did work for an inferior radio station).

  2. My guess is that Thompson has a bigger prize in mind and he’d be a tough sell because he lives in Lakeville now. I would imagine that Mary Franson might give it a look and I’d fully expect Julie Rosen to run, too. Not a fan of Rosen, given her Vikings stadium work.

  3. Wow, Franson would be just what the Dems need to get that out of state money flowing back into the campaign coffers. It might take her a term or two to build the hate up to Bachmann levels, but I wouldn’t mind seeing her in the office.

  4. So is Peterson going to get a high paying “consulting” job with Crystal Sugar?

  5. There were rumors that Marty Seifert would run in 2012. Obviously that didn’t happen. Perhaps now is the time.

    Good call.

  7. Does Marty live in the 7th because if he does I can imagine him as a perfect fit.

    Walter Hanson
    Minneapolis, MN

  8. Marty lived in Marshall while serving in the Legislature. If indeed that is still his residence, then he absolutely lives in the 7th.

  9. It is said, the DFL could run a ham sandwich in the 4th and win.

Is there any chance Betty McCollum could be replaced by a ham sandwich? We’d all be better off.
