Nagging Nagging Nagging

Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:

This column annoys me.

The DFL is running amok, enacting all kinds of seriously stupid legislation.  And it’s the Republicans’ fault, because they’re not holding them back.

The Republicans ran for election on social issues, which the Strib ridiculed at the time, and lost.  Now, the DFL is pushing through their extremely leftist versions of the same social issues the Strib mocked the Republicans for running on.

You hated our opinions when we were running for office so you did everything in your power to make sure we didn’t get elected.  But now that we aren’t in office because we didn’t get elected, you blame us for that, too.

Drop dead.

  1. A sharp accountant can determine a state’s fiscal issues. It doesn’t take much more than sound economic theory. However, I believe that a society is better defined by it’s social issues. Qualitative issues take a lot more thought, ethical development, and comprehension of the group’s established philosophical foundations than do balance sheets.

Obviously, finances are quite worthy of electoral promotion and cannot be wholly dismissed. But I believe that anyone who dismisses their human foundations in favor of the bottom line is truly misguided. Or hypocritical. Particularly when they re-embrace them after being elected for dismissing them.

I sure hope the electorate is watching and paying attention.

  2. The St Paul liquor stores and bars. Yes, the people took orders from you and complained enough to kill the 600% tax increase.

So, are you going to pay us back by supporting Republicans in the next couple elections. Hello? Did you hear me? (crickets)

Well, F**k you then. I am still going to Hudson to buy me booze.
